Reviews

  • I went there with proof of everything they asked for them I was left without any updates I had to email and call them they never return calls when they finally responded they claim they couldn't help me and I should take my case to small claims court smh sad part is they were recommended by fair housing and OHFA I wouldn't refer my enemy to this place
  • Was told that they could help me and to ask for a continuance because my custody hearing was too close to get anything setup, which I did. Then, 2 WEEKS before the hearing they sent me a letter saying they can't help me! And as if some sort of sick joke, the letter suggested that I "may want to hire a private attorney". If I could afford to do that, I wouldn't need legal aid!
  • I’ve been calling months for help on a child support custody case and literally getting told there’s no help for me
  • They claim they can help with unemployment claims. However, I believe this to be quite false. They did an intake and followed up with me asking if I would e-mail them my documents. I did and explained the retailiation that I received from employer as well as, circumstances. And never heard from them after that. I only recieved a letter weeks later telling me that their resources are stretched blah blah blah...and here is a resource list with places that has no relevance to the assistance that you are needing. They are a sham that seems to only help occasionally with evictions and from what I've read a few civil matters. On an occasion being the operative word. This place is geared towards grants and their non-profit agenda. Not actually looking out for the little guy and helping better the community. I believe they just waste your time via intakes to "pad metrics and bill on your behalf". They are truely a disgrace and an entity of self-interest. Merely a front ! So good luck if they actually help !
  • EDIT -- Legal Aid gives great service for walk-ins! I got my case entered in (long but not severe wait) and assigned a lawyer who called in a couple days! I'm sure the lawyer would have walked me through hearings, if I had needed it. My lawyer gave me a direct line and always answered. I was a walk-in at opening time Monday morning. The hour of day might affect the experience. Flaw: The office on Classen doesn't take calls -- or messages --outside Monday thru Thursday 8:30 to 5:00. Neither does the 888-number. My original review mentioned 9:00 to 4:00. If I remember correctly, these are Friday hours.

Features / Highlights

Legal Aid Services of Oklahoma stands out for several key features and highlights that underscore their commitment to the community:

  • Non-Profit Mission: As a 501(c)(3) non-profit, their primary goal is to serve the community, not to generate profit. This ensures their focus remains on providing equitable access to justice.
  • Statewide Reach: With numerous offices and partnerships across all 77 counties, LASO is uniquely positioned to serve low-income individuals and seniors throughout Oklahoma.
  • Comprehensive Legal Assistance: They offer a wide array of civil legal services, addressing critical needs in housing, family law, consumer issues, and more, providing holistic support to clients.
  • Eligibility-Based Services: While their services are generally for low-income individuals, some programs, such as those for seniors (OKSPLASH), persons with AIDS, and victims of housing discrimination, are not income-sensitive, expanding their reach to vulnerable populations.
  • No Charge for Services: There is no charge for the legal services provided by LASO, though clients may be responsible for court or other associated fees. This significantly reduces the financial barrier to legal help.
  • OKLaw.org: A joint project that provides public access to basic legal information, self-help forms, and resources online, empowering individuals to understand their rights and options.
  • Pro Bono Partnerships: LASO actively collaborates with volunteer pro bono attorneys, expanding their capacity to take on cases they might not otherwise be able to handle, and offering support and malpractice insurance for these volunteer efforts.

Promotions or Special Offers

As a non-profit organization focused on providing access to justice, Legal Aid Services of Oklahoma does not typically offer traditional "promotions" or "special offers" in the commercial sense. Their core "offer" is the provision of free or low-cost civil legal assistance to eligible individuals.

However, it's important to highlight the inherent value and "special offer" that is their fundamental service:

  • Free Legal Services: For those who meet the financial eligibility guidelines, LASO provides legal representation and advice at no charge, which is a significant financial relief for individuals who otherwise could not afford legal help.
  • Specialized Helplines: The Sixty Plus Legal Aid Services Helpline (OKSPLASH) at 1-855-488-6814 offers free legal advice, counseling, and community education specifically for American citizens aged 60 and older. This is a dedicated service designed to meet the unique needs of seniors.
  • Online Self-Help Resources: Their website, OKLaw.org, offers free access to a wealth of legal information, self-help forms, and helpful website links, empowering individuals to understand and address certain legal issues on their own.
  • Pro Bono Opportunities: For attorneys in Oklahoma, LASO offers a "special offer" of sorts by providing opportunities for pro bono service, often including malpractice insurance coverage for referred cases and free Continuing Legal Education (CLE) seminars for volunteers. This benefits the legal community while expanding services to those in need.

While they don't have seasonal discounts, their ongoing commitment to providing essential legal services at little to no cost is their most significant and continuous "special offer" to the people of Oklahoma.
