Colorado Legal Services Introduce

In the category of "Nearby Lawyers," we want to bring to your attention Colorado Legal Services, a non-profit organization located at 1905 Sherman St #400, Denver, CO 80203, USA. You can contact them at (303) 830-8210 or via mobile at +1 303-830-8210. Colorado Legal Services (CLS) plays a vital role in the Denver community by providing access to justice for low-income individuals and families facing civil legal problems.

The environment at Colorado Legal Services is centered around the mission of public service. As a non-profit, their focus is on assisting vulnerable populations who might otherwise be unable to afford legal representation. The atmosphere is likely one of dedication and commitment to social justice. The organization strives to offer a supportive environment for its clients, aiming to empower them through legal assistance.

Based on available information, Colorado Legal Services offers a range of legal services in civil matters. According to a review from a client named Michelle, the organization provides assistance with issues such as disputing overpayment from social security and help with Medicaid denials. This suggests that their services extend to administrative law and advocacy related to government benefits. Michelle's feedback highlights the thoroughness and helpfulness of at least one staff member in guiding clients through complex legal processes.

Given the nature of a legal aid organization, the services provided by Colorado Legal Services are likely focused on areas of law that significantly impact the well-being and basic needs of low-income individuals. These areas commonly include:

  • Housing law, such as eviction defense and addressing unsafe living conditions.
  • Family law, including domestic violence, child custody, and divorce (often in cases involving vulnerable individuals).
  • Public benefits, such as assistance with Social Security, Medicaid, food stamps (SNAP), and other government programs.
  • Consumer law, addressing issues like predatory lending and unfair debt collection practices.
  • Immigration law, particularly for those with low incomes or facing humanitarian crises.
  • Elder law, focusing on the legal needs of seniors, including issues related to healthcare, long-term care, and elder abuse.
  • Guardianship matters, although one review raised concerns about the understanding of Colorado law in this specific area.

It is important to note that the specific services offered may vary based on the organization's funding, priorities, and the expertise of their staff attorneys and volunteers.

Features of Colorado Legal Services likely include their commitment to serving the low-income community, providing services free of charge or at a reduced cost to eligible individuals. The organization likely relies on a combination of staff attorneys, paralegals, and volunteer attorneys to deliver its services. Their non-profit status underscores their mission-driven approach to legal aid.

However, it is crucial to present a balanced perspective based on all available information. One review expressed significant dissatisfaction with the initial contact experience. The reviewer stated that the person answering the phone was unwilling to listen, interrupted them multiple times, and seemed to lack understanding of Colorado guardianship law. The reviewer also described the interaction as rude and a waste of time, advising others against contacting the organization based on this experience.

This negative feedback suggests that while some individuals have had positive experiences with Colorado Legal Services, particularly with specific staff members like Michelle, others may encounter challenges in accessing their services or interacting with their personnel. It is possible that, like many non-profit organizations with high demand and limited resources, there may be inconsistencies in service delivery or challenges in managing a large volume of inquiries.

Given the conflicting feedback, it is advisable for individuals seeking legal assistance to directly contact Colorado Legal Services to inquire about their specific needs and eligibility for services. Understanding their intake process and the areas of law they currently handle will be crucial in determining if they are the right fit for your situation.

As a non-profit, Colorado Legal Services likely engages in outreach and collaborates with other community organizations to raise awareness about the legal issues faced by low-income populations and to advocate for systemic change. They may also rely on grants, donations, and volunteer support to sustain their operations and expand their reach within the community.

While specific promotional campaigns are not mentioned in the provided information, the very existence of Colorado Legal Services serves as a form of promotion for access to justice. Their website and community partnerships likely provide information about their services and how individuals can seek assistance. For local users in Denver who are facing civil legal issues and meet the low-income criteria, Colorado Legal Services represents a potentially valuable resource for obtaining legal help.

In conclusion, Colorado Legal Services is a Denver-based non-profit organization dedicated to providing legal assistance to low-income individuals in civil matters. While one client review praises the thoroughness and helpfulness of a specific staff member in areas like social security overpayment disputes and Medicaid denials, another review raises serious concerns about the initial point of contact and understanding of specific legal areas. Prospective clients should reach out directly to understand the scope of their current services and the intake process to determine if Colorado Legal Services can effectively address their legal needs.

Michelle is great! She’s been so thorough with questions and helping me figure out what we need for my case. If you need legal help with disputing overpayment from social security or help with Medicaid denials I’d definitely recommend getting in touch with Colorado Legal Services to see if they’re the right fit for you

Person who answered the phone was unwilling to hear about my situation and cut me off several times. They didn’t understand the law for guardianship and how Colorado Law actually works for guardianship. They seemed lazy and they were very rude. I wouldn’t recommend even contact them. It’s a waste of time.

I had the pleasure of working with Ford King an he was AWESOME! He is not about the games, communicates very well, doesn't BS you and does what he needs to, even if it may not be an outcome that you want. He helped me with an eviction case and handled things beautifully against a shady landlord. I highly recommend CLS! (They also helped me with a divorce.)

Discrimination to the point of harassing me in the parking lot. This location of CLS is here to hurt not help. Try calling and its hold all day to just be hung up on. I finally get there in person and its worse. Don't take public funds if you are just going to discriminate against people and threaten the very people you falsely claim to help.
