I paid to be defended. I paid to get access to information . I paid to have all options explained to me extremely well, so I could understand what was going on. I didn't get any of that. We never discussed any defense. I was conned into pleading guilty even though I never wanted to. I was innocent. Its like no other options were given to me. I paid $10,000 for someone to fight for me, to let me tell the truth, but instead I got a warm body to stand there and take my money. I told Strickland that I would be lying under oath to plead guilty but I guess he doesn't understand, that means no on a plea? I wasn't given a choice. He just kept telling me how hard it was to win in Comal county. I thought that's why I hired him to fight! How can I win if we don't fight?? What did I pay for because I got nothing. I asked him if he had contacted the prosecutor but he said we would do that in court. In court? He just wanted easy money and I was a dumb patsy. Unless I wanted to fire him during court and come up with $10,000 more for another lawyer? I wanted to but I was in too much pain from an injury, at the time to even think. I had NO CHOICE. He literally said to me " I guess you want to hurry up and get this over." Unbelievable. He'd made up his mind. I had no idea what the punishment would be. My lawyer did not go over the agreement or what would be expected of me. I should have been informed and in DETAIL. I was told I had this "great deal" but it was not great. It was the same thing everyone else got. Its horrible and gets worse every day, as I find out more and more of the punishment, harassment, cost, humiliation and invasion of privacy I supposedly agreed to. I say again, it gets worse every day. It has ruined what little life I had left.I am in constant pain from an unrelated injury and had a very restricted life to begin with. Now my life consists solely of pain and new humiliation every day. Not one person understood what this would do to someone innocent. What it feels like to be treated like a criminal. Oh wait I am a criminal now since I agreed to this great deal. I was never told that a DUI is considered a crime. It is. Its punished more harshly than theft. Zero effort was made for my defense. So I plead guilty to a crime I didn't know would give me a criminal record and for a crime I didn't commit. I had plenty of evidence but nobody was interested. I asked my lawyer for official reports that I never saw until weeks AFTER court. I could have defended myself if I had that information when I asked. It made my case for me. I almost died when this occured and instead of being happy to be alive, I am accused of being a criminal. I imagine the actual billing hours were minimal and since its a flat rate, how wonderful to get an idiot like me to plead guilty. Easy money. I found out later there's a "no appeal" tucked in there among all the other things I supposedly agreed to, so not only do I NEVER get to fight, the lawyer is never held accountable for his actions either. I gave $10,000 for nothing.
