Stearns-Montgomery & Proctor Introduce

Stearns-Montgomery & Proctor is a law firm located at 500 W Lanier Ave Suite 905, Fayetteville, GA 30214, serving the local community and potentially extending to areas like Fulton County in Atlanta. For users browsing the "Nearby Lawyers" category, this firm appears to offer legal services, as indicated by its presence and the limited feedback available online. However, the existing customer reviews present a stark contrast in experiences, requiring a careful and objective analysis to provide a balanced introduction for potential local users.

Location and Potential Environment: Situated on West Lanier Avenue in Fayetteville, Georgia, Suite 905 suggests a professional office setting within a multi-unit building. This location likely provides accessibility for residents of Fayetteville and surrounding areas seeking legal counsel. While one review mentions a positive interaction with a specific lawyer, Lakisha, noting her professionalism and dedication, there is no description of the office environment itself. It is reasonable to assume that, as a law firm, Stearns-Montgomery & Proctor maintains a space suitable for client consultations and legal work, which typically includes private meeting rooms and administrative offices. However, potential clients should be aware that the limited positive feedback does not extend to the overall firm experience as described by other reviewers.

Reported Legal Services: Based on the available reviews, the firm appears to handle divorce and potentially other family law matters. One reviewer specifically thanked "lawyer Lakisha" for her professionalism and guidance throughout what seems to be a divorce case, referring to her as the "Best lawyer in Fulton county Atlanta." This suggests that at least some of the attorneys at Stearns-Montgomery & Proctor practice family law and are capable of providing professional support in such cases. However, another review details a highly negative experience, alleging "subpar attorney" representation in a divorce case, suggesting a potential inconsistency in the quality of services provided by different attorneys within the firm.

Contrasting Features and Concerns: The limited reviews present a significant dichotomy in client experiences, highlighting both potential strengths and serious concerns that local users should be aware of:

Positive Aspects (Based on One Review):

  • Professionalism and Dedication: Lawyer Lakisha is specifically praised for her professionalism and dedication to a client's case.
  • Guidance and Support: The reviewer felt grateful for the guidance and support received throughout a challenging time, likely a divorce.
  • Expertise and Compassion: Lakisha's expertise and compassion were noted as making a significant positive difference for the client.
  • Reputation in Fulton County: The reviewer referred to Lakisha as the "Best lawyer in Fulton county Atlanta," suggesting a positive reputation, at least for this specific attorney.

Negative Aspects and Serious Allegations (Based on Two Reviews):

  • Unfair Billing Practices: One reviewer accused the firm of "milking" them of every penny, suggesting exploitative billing based on their financial knowledge.
  • Subpar Attorney Representation: The same reviewer described receiving "subpar attorney" service.
  • Pressuring for More Money: Allegations were made of being offered another attorney for a higher fee after dissatisfaction with the initial representation.
  • Abrupt Client Termination: The firm reportedly dropped the client less than a month before a final court appearance.
  • Failure to Refund Escrow: Despite allegedly acknowledging that the client did not receive the services paid for, the firm purportedly kept the escrow funds.
  • Unilateral Property Lien: A lien was allegedly placed on the client's property without prior communication.
  • Accusation of Intimidation: A firm representative, Viktor, allegedly accused the client of "intimidation" for posting a negative review.
  • Strong-Arm Tactics: The reviewer claimed Viktor attempted to pressure them regarding their negative review.
  • Evasive Responses Regarding Billing: When questioned about the retained escrow and a balance due, Viktor reportedly gave evasive answers, blaming the "computer."
  • Owner's Lack of Communication and Action: The firm owner, Mary, allegedly promised to discuss a potential refund but then unilaterally decided against it and proceeded with the property lien without informing the client.
  • Blaming the Client: The owner reportedly implied it was the client's fault for staying with the firm despite their issues.
  • Billing for Services After Attorney Withdrawal: The client reported receiving a new invoice with "bogus charges" for services allegedly rendered after their attorney had withdrawn from the case.
  • Charging for Firm-Initiated Calls: The invoice reportedly included charges for calls initiated by the firm to the client about their attorney.
  • Adding Unexplained Charges: The client mentioned charges for things they had no knowledge of.
  • Ethical Concerns: The reviewer explicitly labeled the firm as "unethical" and sought assistance regarding their billing practices.
  • Vulnerable Client: The reviewer identified as a "struggling disabled vet" who felt "railroaded" by the firm.

Promotional Information and Call to Action: Based on the significantly conflicting reviews, it is challenging to provide standard promotional information for Stearns-Montgomery & Proctor. While one client expressed satisfaction with a specific attorney's professionalism and dedication in a divorce case, the detailed allegations from other reviewers raise serious concerns about the firm's billing practices, quality of representation, and client communication. Local users considering Stearns-Montgomery & Proctor for their legal needs, particularly in family law or divorce, should proceed with extreme caution.

It is strongly recommended that potential clients thoroughly investigate the firm beyond the limited Google Reviews, as suggested by one of the negative reviewers who advised reading Yelp reviews. Seeking consultations with multiple law firms and carefully scrutinizing fee agreements and client testimonials from various sources is crucial before making a decision. The stark contrast in experiences indicates a potential inconsistency in service quality or billing practices that warrants careful consideration.

It would be prudent to seek references and inquire about the firm's response to the negative feedback found online. Given the serious nature of the allegations, potential clients must conduct thorough due diligence to ensure their legal needs will be met ethically and professionally.

In conclusion, Stearns-Montgomery & Proctor in Fayetteville, GA, has received both positive feedback regarding the professionalism of one of their lawyers in a divorce case and significant negative feedback alleging unethical billing practices, subpar representation, abrupt client termination, and questionable handling of client funds and property liens. DO NOT HIRE THIS FIRM!!!! They will milk you of every penny you have (they had my bank statements so knew exactly what I had) and give you a subpar attorney…then turn around and offer you another attorney for more money…they drop me as a client almost less than a month before my final court appearance…afterwards acknowledging that I had not received the service I paid for, kept my escrow and then out of the blue placed a lien on my property without speaking to me…BE WARE OF THIS SHADY FIRM…don’t let google review fool you…go read the yelp reviews and believe them!!!!! UPDATE: I spoke with Viktor, the one that does the liens and he accused me of “intimidation” bc I posted my review…he said he only deals with the liens and then turned around and tried to strong arm me for posting a review about my experience with them..after I informed him I was recording, he backtracked and said he didn’t know the purpose of my call and told me I had a balance with them when I asked why and about my escrow they kept, he said he couldn’t answer bc the “computer” generates the number as if he wasn’t the 1 who inputs it…the owner Mary had told me we would discuss my possible refund and then without calling to tell me she decided I wasn’t entitled to 1, she sneakily place a lien on my home which is what they tried to get me to agree to before they dropped me as a client for questioning their unfair billing practices and subpar representation. She implied it was MY fault for staying with the firm and ask why I didn’t drop THEM…. I should have but, when you have already paid thousands of dollars that you didn’t have, you feel stuck. I paid to be represented at my final divorce hearing and that didn’t happen…so, why do this firm deserve my money and to harass me with a lien??? IM A STRUGGLING DISABLED VET who got railroaded by a large firm…I never had a chance Update:Today I received an invoice from them although I had already received a final invoice and they have applied bogus charges…charging for things after their attorney had already withdrew from my case …this after I asked why they didn’t return my escrow…also charged me for calls they initiated to me about their attorney and adding things I have no knowledge of…if anyone can help me with this unethical firm..please reach out…

I had the pleasure of working with LaKeisha Gantt as my attorney, and I couldn’t be more satisfied with her services. From our first meeting, she truly listened to my concerns and was able to pinpoint the key issues I was facing. With the information I provided, LaKeisha skillfully outlined and developed a concise argument to defend me. Her attention to detail and ability to understand my situation made all the difference. I highly recommend her for anyone in need of a dedicated and insightful attorney.

I currently live in California and I needed an attorney in Georgia for a family law issue. Stearns-Montgomery & Proctor was recommended by a family friend and the firm quickly found an attorney in the jurisdiction of my issue. Ms. LaKeshia Gantt, an attorney with passion stepped up to the plate, ready and willing to walk the mile. From the start LaKeshia was a true professional, swiftly gathering info and advising on the best course of action. In less than a week the petition was filed with the courts and in less than a month she fought for me, settling the petition out of court with the opposing counsel. I cannot say how incredibly happy I am that LaKeshia stepped up and knocked this case out of the park! If you’re in need of a family law attorney, LaKeshia Gantt comes HIGHLY recommended by our family!

This law firm charged me nearly $4,000 for a retainer to modify child support. I discussed everything I wanted to do in the consultation with the lawyer. After I paid the retainer, I got numerous emails from many different people working at this firm that I was charged $70 for each time. They kept leaving the things out that I said I wanted and putting in stuff I didn’t ever mention and every time I had to correct their mistakes, they charged me. They send invoices each month detailing the charges that come out of the retainer. They claim they are talking amongst each other about my case and charging me for that. It took me less than 10 min to read the draft that was to be filed and email them with the corrections that needed to be made but yet charged me a whole hour for the lawyer to review it. Somehow it took her that long and yet so much was missing from it. They also told me I needed to keep $2,000 in my escrow account and when there was only 200 something left they said I needed to pay OVER $4,000. How does that make sense?! I told them I no longer wish to use their services as it is clear they are not going to get my case done without all these needless charges racking up. They never even filed anything. After I emailed and said I don’t want to use them anymore, they sent me another invoice saying I owe $1,700. I saw numerous bad reviews on here not long ago (which I should have checked before agreeing to use them as my lawyer) and now they are all magically gone. I will keep posting my review if it gets taken down. This is a shady business and I would not suggest anyone to use them. They don’t care about helping you. They just want to drain your bank account. Shame on you!!
