My experience with South Atlanta Family law has been terrible and at times unprofessional. My case took a year to see a judge and that was tied to the office not submitting a request to the court house. I consistently had to reach out for information on my case and reminding the team to move forward with actions that were needed. My agreement stated I need a balance soft one amount to go toward court proceedings and that number changed verbally, but not in the written agreement. After the lawyer on my case changed, I saw some movement. After I went to the court and asked why a form hadn't been submitted, a new paralegal was able to submit and get a court date. The lawyer missed that court date due to health reasons. After missing that date, a new date was submitted and the office told me I needed to pay them some more money. In the end, I refused to pay more money for a case that had yet to see a judge. My retainer initially paid was $7,500. How that was used up and never went before a judge with the firm is still baffling to me. They were removed from my case and provided all the files they worked on for the case. A heads up, when i was going to fire them earlier in the case, I was told my balance was not refundable, even though no outcomes were made from my case and the balance was above the required amount within the contract. I would not recommend. I will be filing my complaints also with the Barr.

I wish I could give this law firm negative stars. My experience with South Atlanta Law, specifically with Tamika (the paralegal), Denise (the office manager), Attorney Ronica Scales, and Attorney Alfred, has been nothing short of a nightmare. I began my case on January 21, 2024, and initially spoke with Michelle Cadet and Lisa, who were both very pleasant and gave me a glimmer of hope that I had chosen a trustworthy law office. However, that was the last positive experience I had. I am only giving this practice one star for Michelle and Lisa because they were the nicest members of the staff. I was assigned Attorney Ronica Scales, whom I never spoke to in person. Communication was severely lacking; the only time I heard from the firm was when they were reminding me of outstanding balances. The entire process felt unprofessional and disorganized. I had to conduct my own search to locate my husband for service, and when I identified a billing discrepancy involving a double charge for their service locator, the paralegal engaged in a lengthy back-and-forth with me. After conducting her own investigation, she ultimately acknowledged that the firm was in the wrong. This experience highlighted that I was essentially paying for the incompetence of the firm. Despite their errors, they insisted on holding me accountable to a document I was required to sign on my first day, which effectively allowed them to take advantage of my situation without any accountability for their mistakes. If my husband and I hadn't reconciled, I fear they would have drained my finances completely. Despite paying $6,000, I never made it to court or mediation. They had me sign documents stating there would be no refunds, which felt like a blatant exploitation of my vulnerable situation. I had very limited interaction with the attorneys; aside from a brief conversation with Attorney Burroughs, I never spoke to any of the others. By the time I did connect with Burroughs, my husband and I had already reconciled, rendering my case moot. The constant switching of attorneys without notification—starting with Attorney Ronica Scales, then moving to Attorney Alfred, and finally Attorney Burroughs—only added to my frustration. I had to repeatedly reach out to find out what was happening with my case. Tamika, the paralegal, was often unavailable due to vacations or illness, and when she was out, nothing moved forward. A simple courtesy call would have made a world of difference, but that level of care was clearly lacking. After 11 months of inaction, I am left feeling taken advantage of and ignored. I will also be filing a complaint with the bar regarding the non-service I experienced with this firm. I strongly advise anyone in need of legal assistance to steer clear of South Atlanta Law. They do not provide the support or service you deserve, especially during difficult times.

Great experience with the whole team, especially Attorney Burroughs. The whole process put me at ease during an extremely painful and stressful time in my life. They walked me through every step and explained everything in simple terms so I knew exactly what was going on at all times. No one wants to ever be in a position where they need a divorce lawyer but I’m glad South Atlanta Family Law was here for me! I would recommend them to anyone in the area.

In response to your ridiculous response, It's disappointing to see that my reconciliation with my husband has been cited as the reason for my request for a refund. My concerns regarding the lack of service were communicated consistently throughout the process, and I have recorded proof of my requests. Additionally, I have witnesses who were present during my calls and are willing to testify on my behalf. I urge you to review your own records, as they will corroborate my claims. I have taken a screenshot of your unprofessional response and I will involve the bar to ensure that this matter is addressed appropriately. I have EVERY right to tell my story so others don’t go through what I went through. My concerns about the lack of service and communication were raised well before the reconciliation and It’s disheartening to see that others have echoed similar sentiments regarding the firm’s conduct. This isn’t just my experience; it’s a pattern that has been noted by several clients. I stand by my original statements and hope that the firm takes this feedback seriously to improve their practices. Additionally, while I appreciate the gesture, I found it inappropriate for a paralegal to invite me to her church during this process. I guess you will deny that as well.

This introduction aims to provide potential clients with an objective overview of the firm, drawing upon publicly available information, including online reviews, to offer insights into their environment, services, features, and overall client experience.
South Atlanta Family Law Firm operates within the category of "Nearby Lawyers," specifically focusing on family law. This specialization suggests that the firm concentrates its expertise on the various legal issues that families may encounter. Their physical location in the Village Center Parkway in Stockbridge indicates accessibility for local residents seeking in-person consultations and representation. The presence of a dedicated phone number, (404) 494-0027, and a mobile phone number, +1 404-494-0027, suggests multiple avenues for potential clients to reach out and inquire about their services.
Based on the information available online, particularly the customer reviews, the environment and operational aspects of South Atlanta Family Law Firm appear to be areas of concern for some clients. One reviewer described their overall experience as "terrible and at times unprofessional," citing issues with the timeliness of case progression, communication, and billing practices. This account details a year-long delay in seeing a judge, allegedly due to the firm's administrative oversight in submitting necessary court documents. The reviewer also noted difficulties in obtaining proactive communication regarding their case, often needing to initiate contact themselves for updates. Furthermore, discrepancies in agreed-upon payment terms and concerns about the utilization of the retainer fee without significant case advancement were highlighted.
Another detailed review echoed similar sentiments, expressing a wish to give the firm "negative stars" due to a "nightmare" experience. This review specifically named several individuals within the firm, including a paralegal and office manager, and criticized the overall professionalism and organization. The client reported a lack of in-person communication with their assigned attorney and stated that the primary contact from the firm revolved around outstanding balances. The reviewer also recounted instances of having to independently take actions related to their case, such as locating their spouse for service, and identified billing errors that they had to actively resolve. The mandatory signing of a non-refundable retainer agreement at the outset was also viewed negatively, as the client felt it offered the firm little accountability for errors or lack of progress.
The issue of frequent attorney changes without notification was another significant point of concern raised in the reviews. One client reported being assigned three different attorneys over the course of their case, leading to further frustration and a sense of instability. Additionally, the availability of the paralegal was mentioned as a factor impacting the progress of the case, with periods of unavailability due to vacations or illness reportedly causing delays. Ultimately, this client felt "taken advantage of and ignored" after eleven months of perceived inaction, despite having paid a substantial retainer fee.
Considering these reviews, potential clients might perceive the environment at South Atlanta Family Law Firm as one where communication can be inconsistent, case management may face administrative challenges, and proactive client updates might be lacking. The reported instances of billing discrepancies and concerns about retainer fee utilization could also contribute to a perception of potential financial risks.
