  • After discontinuing my services with them this year February due to lack of professionalism Sean never refunded me my remainder of my retainer. I have been reaching out still nothing.
  • This firm is very unprofessional, I called the firm due to them sending me an order to withdraw from my case a few days before my trial. They were taking payments directly from my account and stopped payment and Sean told me they must’ve mixed me up, then say pay July payment of $500 , but why when my payments were stopped on there end, he laughed at me and told me you don’t have any money and hung up on me. Not to mention he took my retainer fee but never stated that he wouldn’t be representing me they put an attorney who has only one year of practice on my case which I feel is totally unfair because she hasn’t taken necessary steps to help me in my case because she has very little knowledge.
  • Made an appointment, was on my way to the appointment, someone from the office called me and asked if I was still attending, told them I was 20 mins away; appointment did not start until 20 mins. When I arrived, no one from the office was picking up, no one was at the office. Very unprofessional to not call back to my calls, I waited about 30 mins going to every flooring 1-5 floors with my daughter looking for the office. Called the office about 6 times. Left a voicemail. This definitely was a waste of my time when I have an important situation to resolve within my business.
  • Amazing service! Initiating a divorce can be frightening, frustrating, and emotional. Keeping that in mind the last thing that you need is the lack of support and assistance from your attorney. I’m happy to say that the attorneys at MLG has made this process easy. Things can get rocky when the type of divorce is contested and especially when you live with the spouse. They were communicative, informative and they didn’t let me down. My kudos go to Alexandria for empathizing with me along this process and getting everything that I needed done. Thank you all God Bless
  • ******* DO NOT USE THEM******* When I first met and hired this law firm I was told that I needed to get the retainer fee in right away so that Sean could start the process and start to make the Allocation for child support, I was also told that I would remain and be the soul decision maker for my daughter and that me and my daughters dad had 30 days after he got served to fill out and send in our financial affidavit or there would be consequences. And that’s what I did I paid and sent in my financial affidavit right away…30 days later my daughters dad never sent his is and no consequences happened. I sent in 5 financial affidavits…for what? None of them were used and I was charged for them. For months I was dealing with Sean and there was a phone call made to discuss my case and about me staying decision maker he told me “what gives you the right to make all the decisions”. There was a day I made an appointment to speak to Sean in person and there was a joke made that “I’m paying for his kids college” which I did not find funny. At my first court date there was another attorney (Colin) who was representing me which I was never informed about him taking over my case. For about 2 to 3 months I was dealing with him and then all of a sudden my emails weren’t going through to him and I wasn’t getting returned phone calls and then I found out that he no longer worked with this law firm and Gary was now on my case. So that is 2 times I was never notified that I was getting someone new on my case. Sean,Colin and Gary all told me that no over night visitation would happen till after my daughter was 2 years of age. Steve got over night and I was then told we’ll there really is no reason for him not to have them. It was impossible to get Gary on the phone and I would always get told “he will call you back” or “send and email and he’ll get back to you”. There was 2 weeks that I was calling to discuss something about my case and never got a phone call back and found out that he was out of town and would be back the morning of our court hearing and then called me 5 minuets before we were supposed to go in for court. In that court hearing we discussed parenting time. Lavel law and Diggs firm both stated that my daughters father has been dropping her off at 7pm on his Wednesday and Gary just sat there and did not speak up and say that I am the one who picks her up from his house. Anytime I would ask when child support would be talked about the response was “I’m not sure, this is a process, it could be another year”. After all this I had to seek out someone new to represent me and when I did the first question I was asked was “how much do you receive in child support” and they were in complete shock that this case has been going on for 15 months and that this wasn’t this first thing talked about. An Allocation for child support was never even made through this law firm and I found out too that I in fact can get back pay for support when MLG told me I couldn’t. The law firm I have now has gotten more done in one court hearing and in one meeting that MLG did in 15 months. I put all of my trust in MLG just to be failed and I have been taken advantage of and was made out to be a fool during court. They also tried to sue me for the remaining balance of what I owed because I refused to pay them after the services I was provided.

For those needing to contact the firm, their phone number is (312) 374-4559, and their mobile number is +1 312-374-4559.

Mehta Law Group is identified as a firm with a focus on family law, serving clients across Cook, DuPage, Lake, and Will Counties in Illinois. Their website indicates specialization in a wide range of family law matters, including divorce (contested and uncontested), high net worth divorce, child custody, child support, spousal maintenance (alimony), property division, business valuations, collaborative divorces, college expenses, domestic violence and orders of protection, mediation, paternity, post-divorce/parentage enforcement, and pension and retirement divisions (QILDRO and QDRO), as well as same-sex marriage, domestic partnerships, and civil unions. This comprehensive list of services suggests that the firm aims to provide extensive legal support for individuals navigating the complexities of family-related legal issues.

Regarding the environment of the Mehta Law Group offices, general information about legal practices suggests that clients can typically expect a professional setting designed to facilitate confidential discussions. Located in a suite within a building at 10540 S Western Ave, the office likely offers a standard professional layout, including a reception area, private consultation rooms, and workspaces for attorneys and staff. The objective of such an environment is to provide a discrete and focused space where clients can comfortably address sensitive legal matters.

However, it is crucial to present a balanced view, especially when public feedback is available. The provided customer reviews for Mehta Law Group highlight significant concerns regarding professionalism and client service.

One client's review states: "After discontinuing my services with them this year February due to lack of professionalism Sean never refunded me my remainder of my retainer. I have been reaching out still nothing." This feedback points to a serious issue concerning financial transparency and accountability, specifically the non-refund of a retainer balance after services were discontinued. The mention of "lack of professionalism" suggests a broader dissatisfaction with the firm's conduct.

Another review reinforces these concerns: "This firm is very unprofessional, I called the firm due to them sending me an order to withdraw from my case a few days before my trial. They were taking payments directly from my account and stopped payment and Sean told me they must’ve mixed me up, then say pay July payment of $500, but why when my payments were stopped on there end, he laughed at me and told me you don’t have any money and hung up on me. Not to mention he took my retainer fee but never stated that he wouldn’t be representing me they put an attorney who has only one year of practice on my case which I feel is totally unfair because she hasn’t taken necessary steps to help me in my case because she has very little knowledge." This review raises several critical points:

  • Last-Minute Withdrawal: The firm allegedly sent an order to withdraw from a case just days before trial, which could severely jeopardize a client's legal position.

  • Payment Discrepancies and Miscommunication: Issues with direct account payments being stopped by the firm, followed by demands for new payments, indicate a disorganized and potentially problematic billing system.

  • Unprofessional Conduct: The alleged laughter and hanging up on a client by "Sean" are deeply unprofessional and disrespectful, suggesting a lack of client care and proper communication etiquette.

  • Retainer Issues and Lack of Representation Clarity: The claim that a retainer fee was taken without clear communication about who would be representing the client, or if the firm would even be representing them, is a significant concern. This implies a lack of transparency regarding the attorney-client relationship from the outset.

  • Inexperienced Counsel: The client expresses dissatisfaction with an attorney with "only one year of practice" being assigned to their case, feeling this was "totally unfair" due to a perceived lack of knowledge and inability to take "necessary steps" to help the case. This suggests concerns about the allocation of experienced legal talent to client matters.

These reviews, while representing individual experiences, point to a pattern of concerning practices related to client communication, financial management, case handling, and professional conduct. For potential clients using the "Nearby Lawyers" platform, such feedback is vital for making an informed decision.

In terms of features, Mehta Law Group aims to provide a modern approach to family law, stating their commitment to "personalized attention to each of their clients" and offering "compassionate and practical legal solutions." They highlight a mission to prioritize each case, ensuring "the utmost care, regardless of the issues presented," and claim to provide "virtually unlimited access to our team" with a motto of "client's first." These stated aspirations, however, appear to be contradicted by the client testimonials provided.

Promotional information from the firm itself generally emphasizes their commitment to client advocacy, ensuring a "positive end result," and boasting "over 30 years of combined experience" among their attorneys. They offer free initial consultations, which is a common promotional tool for law firms, allowing potential clients to discuss their situation without an upfront financial commitment. They also highlight their broad geographical reach within the Chicago metropolitan area.

However, it is crucial to acknowledge that the highly critical client reviews present a contrasting perspective to the firm's self-promotional messages. The feedback suggests that despite stated intentions of professionalism and client prioritization, some clients have experienced significant issues with the firm's services and conduct. Therefore, while Mehta Law Group promotes itself as a firm dedicated to comprehensive family law services with experienced attorneys, potential clients on the "Nearby Lawyers" platform should consider the full spectrum of publicly available information, including the outlined negative experiences, when evaluating their options. It is always advisable for individuals to conduct thorough due diligence, including consultations and detailed inquiries about case handling, fee structures, and attorney assignments, before retaining legal services.
