Welcome to the Nearby Lawyers platform, a resource designed to help local users connect with legal professionals in their community. Today, we are presenting information regarding the Law Office of Manuel Eli Gonzalez, located at 8201 4th St suite h, Downey, CA 90241, USA. It is crucial for local users to be aware that the available online reviews for this law office raise significant concerns regarding their professional conduct and client service.
While we do not have specific details about the physical environment of the Law Office of Manuel Eli Gonzalez, the address indicates a suite within a building on 4th Street in Downey. Typically, law offices aim to provide a professional setting for client consultations. However, in light of the serious allegations raised in the customer reviews, the physical environment becomes a secondary consideration to the reported issues with legal representation and client communication.
Based on the explicit feedback from multiple individuals who have interacted with the Law Office of Manuel Eli Gonzalez, there are several critical issues that potential local users should be aware of regarding their services:
- Poor Litigation Handling: One reviewer described Attorney Gonzalez as the "worst attorney I have ever encountered," stating that their litigation is ongoing and was "counseled my case the worst way possible." This suggests a significant lack of competence or diligence in handling legal proceedings, potentially leading to negative outcomes for clients.
- Lack of Case Preparation and Understanding: Another client reported that the attorney "did not study the case and understand it properly." This fundamental failure to grasp the details of a case can severely prejudice a client's legal position.
- Abrupt Withdrawal Without Communication: Adding to the concern, the same client stated that the attorney "just requested to be released as my counselor without any communication in midst of the lawsuit." Abandoning a client during ongoing litigation without explanation places the client in an extremely vulnerable and difficult position.
- Excessive Fees and Poor Value: This client also reported being charged "almost $6000 up until this point and left high and dry in much more difficult position." This raises questions about the value received for the fees charged and the financial impact on the client due to the attorney's actions.
- Involvement of a Disbarred Paralegal: A particularly alarming accusation is that the office "works with a paralegal that has been disbarred from practicing law." The reviewer further stated that this individual was their primary point of contact and had been "ghosting" them for a month, with the client discovering the attorney's withdrawal through a court record search, again highlighting a severe lack of communication. Engaging a disbarred individual in a legal capacity raises serious ethical and professional concerns.
- Unexplained and Potentially Unnecessary Fees: Another detailed review recounts a situation where a client, after deciding not to proceed with the firm the day after an initial consultation, was charged significant fees ($375 and $187.50) for what they claim was minimal work, with only a portion of their initial payment being returned. The client also described the office staff as "incompetent" and reported evasive behavior from the attorney when seeking clarification on these fees.
- Lack of Transparency Regarding Retainer Agreement: The same review alleges that the terms and conditions of the retainer agreement, including fees, were not explained to the client during the initial consultation. This lack of transparency can lead to unexpected charges and disputes.
- Evasive Behavior from Attorney and Staff: The account of the attorney allegedly avoiding the client when they came to inquire about the fees, coupled with the staff's inability to provide clear explanations, paints a picture of unprofessional and potentially dishonest conduct.
- Prior Disciplinary Action: A crucial piece of information revealed in one of the reviews is that Attorney Manuel Eli Gonzalez "faced disciplinary action in 2007/2008," and the reviewer advises potential clients to "Search the State Bar Court of California case for further." This historical disciplinary record is a significant red flag that local users should investigate.
- Exploitation of Vulnerable Clients: The final review expresses concern that the attorney would "take advantage of your situation after you told him you are low income," urging others to "Please look elsewhere for a reputable Attorney." This suggests allegations of unethical behavior and a lack of compassion for clients in difficult financial circumstances.
Given the overwhelmingly negative feedback and the serious nature of the allegations, including poor legal representation, lack of communication, questionable billing practices, the involvement of a disbarred paralegal, and a history of disciplinary action, it is impossible to provide any positive promotional information for the Law Office of Manuel Eli Gonzalez based on the available online reviews. Instead, the objective assessment of the provided information strongly suggests that local users in Downey, CA, should exercise extreme caution and carefully consider these reviews before engaging the services of this law office.

Worst attorney I have ever encountered. My litigation is still ongoing, have counseled my case the worst way possible. Did not study the case and understand it properly. As if that is enough, just requested to be released as my counselor without any communication in midst of the lawsuit. Charged me almost $6000 up until this point and left high and dry in much more difficult position. Works with a paralegal that has been disbarred from practicing law. She has been my point of contact, she has been ghosting me for the last month. Found out I was being left through court record search. No explanation, no communication, nothing. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND STAY AWAY!!!!
DO NOT hire Attorney Manuel to handle any of your cases. My mother acted upon a panic when she was informed she might loose her granddaughter after having guardianship for nearly 5 years. My mother found Attorney Manuel in a Spanish magazine...Long story short my mother signed a civil retainer with the attorney and paid $1,500 cash (conveniently there’s a B of A near by...). At no time during the consultation/initial meeting was my mother explained the terms and conditions of the retainer agreement (i.e, fees). My mother was told Pamela the receptionist/ possible paralegal was going to call her that evening to get more information about the Probate case, but Pamela failed to do so. The very next day my mother called the Attorneys office to tell them she didn’t want to move forward with them. The attorney took my mother’s indecisiveness as a hire and unbeknownst to her, she was charged $375 and an additional $187.50 for half hour of work they claim that they did, only returning $937.00. My mother along with my sister & I went to the attorneys office Friday to get an explanation of the unnecessary fees and let me tell you, the employees at this office are incompetent as they were unable to give us a good explanation. The male receptionist had the audacity to say the attorney was at court when we saw the attorney walk into the office via rear door and immediately walked back out as we were trying to get an explanation about the fees....a lot of red flags here... Keep in mind this attorney faced disciplinary action in 2007/2008. Search the State Bar Court of California case for further. A compassionate Attorney won’t take advantage of your situation after you told him you are low income. Please look elsewhere for a reputable Attorney.
So grateful I found this law office, I was in a real pickle and Eli worked hard to help me win my case. From the first time I called til when my case was settled was such a breeze and he guided me through every step. Thank you for everything!
Do not hire this Lawyer !! , I had him recommended hired him for $5,000 out of panic and rush , on the day of the court date he did not speak for me, he couldn’t even find the evidence or know what my case was about , he didn’t even try and his paralegal Ana Alvarez is a liar upon arrival she told me she was also going to handle an immigration service for $1000 and when I asked she said to my face “we don’t do that here “ if I could go back in time I would’ve never stepped into this office I have talked with other lawyers and with all the evidence I had I could have won the whole case but Eli didn’t even care to study this case when I arrived on court date he was like “so what happened “ even tho I had been in constant communication with his paralegal for 3 months , it is unbelievable at how better off I could have been representing myself , thank you Eli for jeopardizing my sons custody and charging me for the bare minimum, also I have tried to reach your office for a month but no call back and his assistants never know where he is at or don’t even answer your calls I repeat stay away from this place .
Great service, attorney Gonzalez is knowledgeable and honest.
