Gutterson Scott Introduce

Welcome to Nearby Lawyers, your local platform for finding legal professionals and related services. Today, we present an overview of Gutterson Scott, an attorney and CPA located at 515 Madison Ave #40, New York, NY 10022, USA. This introduction aims to provide local users with an objective understanding of the services offered, the professional environment, and key features, as gleaned from available online feedback. It is important to consider all perspectives when evaluating a service provider.

The Environment of Gutterson Scott's Office:

While the provided reviews do not offer specific details about the physical environment of Gutterson Scott's office, it is situated on Madison Avenue in New York City, a well-known business district. Typically, offices in such locations maintain a professional setting to facilitate client consultations and the handling of sensitive legal and financial matters. Clients might expect a space conducive to private discussions and document review. As both an attorney and a CPA, the office likely has resources to manage both legal and accounting paperwork and processes.

Services Offered by Gutterson Scott:

Based on the limited information from the reviews, Gutterson Scott appears to offer services in the capacity of both an attorney and a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). This suggests a dual expertise, potentially providing clients with integrated legal and financial advice. The specific services mentioned or implied include:

  • Legal Services: The reference to an "attorney" clearly indicates the provision of legal counsel and representation. The negative review suggests involvement in some form of filing, possibly tax-related legal documentation or business-related filings, given the subsequent issue with the IRS. However, the exact scope of legal services is not detailed.
  • CPA Services: The positive review explicitly states that Gutterson Scott is their "personal CPA," indicating the provision of accounting and financial services. This could include tax preparation, financial planning, bookkeeping, and other related services.
  • Referral Services: The negative review mentions being sent to Scott's son for an initial meeting, suggesting a practice that may involve multiple professionals or family members within the business.

It is important to note that the limited review information does not provide a comprehensive list of all services offered by Gutterson Scott. As both an attorney and a CPA, the potential range of services could be quite broad, covering areas where legal and financial expertise intersect, such as estate planning, business law, and tax law.

Features and Potential Strengths:

Despite the mixed reviews, we can identify some potential features and a strength based on the provided feedback:

  • Dual Expertise (Attorney and CPA): The fact that Gutterson Scott operates as both an attorney and a CPA could be a significant advantage for clients needing integrated legal and financial advice. This dual perspective might offer a more holistic approach to certain situations.
  • Positive Referral from a Wealth Management Professional: The enthusiastic endorsement from a wealth management professional who refers a "majority" of their clients to Gutterson Scott suggests a level of trust and satisfaction within certain professional circles. This implies that Gutterson Scott may have a strong track record and provide excellent service to some clients, particularly in areas relevant to wealth management.

Concerns and Areas for Consideration:

The negative reviews raise some significant concerns that potential local users should carefully consider:

  • Poor Communication: One reviewer explicitly mentions "poor communication" and a lack of follow-up, leading to negative financial consequences. This suggests a potential issue with responsiveness and keeping clients informed.
  • Delegation to Other Parties: The practice of sending clients to other individuals, in this case, the attorney's son, for initial meetings might be a point of concern, especially if it leads to delays or a perceived lack of direct attention from Gutterson Scott himself.
  • Lack of Confirmation and Follow-Through: The failure to provide confirmation of important filings and the subsequent lack of follow-up, as described in one review, indicates potential issues with administrative processes and attention to detail.
  • Customer Service Issues: The defensive response to a client's inquiry about the lack of follow-up, blaming the client for providing paperwork "last minute," suggests potential issues with customer service and accountability.
  • "Family Business" Concerns: The dismissive comment to "stay away from this family 'business'" hints at potential unprofessionalism or other negative experiences related to the operational structure.
  • Inconsistency in Service Quality: The stark contrast between the highly positive referral and the extremely negative personal experience suggests a potential inconsistency in the quality of service provided.

Promotional Information and Considerations for Local Users:

Given the mixed feedback, providing straightforward promotional information is challenging. However, local users might consider the following points:

  • Potential for Integrated Legal and Financial Services: If you require both legal and CPA services, Gutterson Scott's dual expertise might offer a convenient single point of contact. It would be crucial to inquire specifically about the scope and quality of services in both areas.
  • Strong Reputation within Certain Professional Networks: The positive referral from a wealth management professional suggests that Gutterson Scott may have a strong understanding of financial matters relevant to wealth management and may provide excellent service in that domain. If your needs align with this area, it might be worth exploring further.
  • Importance of Thorough Due Diligence: Due to the significant concerns raised in the negative reviews regarding communication and service delivery, local users should exercise extreme caution and conduct thorough due diligence before engaging Gutterson Scott's services. This could include seeking additional references, asking detailed questions about communication protocols, and clarifying who will be directly handling their case.
  • Consider Alternative Providers: Given the red flags raised, local users may want to strongly consider exploring other nearby lawyers and CPAs with more consistently positive feedback to ensure a smoother and more reliable experience.
  • Direct Inquiry is Essential: To get a clearer understanding of the current practices and service quality, contacting Gutterson Scott directly at (212) 308-5495 or +1 212-308-5495 to discuss your specific needs and concerns would be a necessary step, should you still be considering their services after reviewing the feedback.

Objective Introduction:

Gutterson Scott, located in New York City, operates as both an attorney and a CPA. This dual expertise presents a potential advantage for clients seeking integrated legal and financial advice. A positive referral from a wealth management professional indicates satisfaction within certain professional circles, possibly related to financial and wealth management services. However, it is crucial for local users to be aware of significant negative feedback regarding poor communication, issues with delegation, lack of follow-through, and customer service concerns. The stark contrast in reviews suggests a potential inconsistency in service quality. While the possibility of integrated legal and financial services might be appealing, prospective clients should exercise considerable caution and conduct thorough due diligence, including seeking additional references and directly addressing the concerns raised in the negative reviews, before making a decision. Exploring alternative legal and CPA service providers in the area with more consistently positive feedback is strongly recommended to ensure a reliable and satisfactory experience.

I'd provide 0 stars if possible. Scott sent us to his son who arrived half an hour late to our initial meeting. Poor communication. Didn't even provide a return or a confirmation that the 2017 filing had taken place. Was unaware until the IRS sent a letter stating we owed money. When I reached out to ask why there wasn't any follow up I was told I was in the wrong for getting paperwork last minute. Assumptions were made that because they didn't write back, all was good. Lesson learned. Seek a professional next time. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this family "business".
