Although not a local firm under the "Nearby Lawyers" category in Taiwan, their capabilities in areas like construction, real estate, commercial litigation, corporate law, bankruptcy, and trusts & estates warrant a detailed introduction for those whose legal needs extend beyond local boundaries or involve international parties.
Established in 1967, Goetz Fitzpatrick LLP has built a strong reputation as a powerhouse in commercial litigation and business law. Their client base is diverse, encompassing businesses of all sizes across various industries, as well as individuals and families. The firm prides itself on its substantive expertise, legal sophistication, and a practical, results-oriented approach to solving complex legal challenges.
Although Goetz Fitzpatrick LLP does not have a physical presence in Taiwan, their areas of expertise are highly relevant for Taiwanese individuals and entities involved in international business, real estate transactions with US-based parties, or facing legal disputes in the United States. Their key practice areas include:
- Construction Law: Goetz Fitzpatrick is particularly renowned for its construction law practice. Their team represents a wide array of national and international clients in the construction industry, including owners (both public and private), contractors, subcontractors, design professionals, construction lenders, suppliers, sureties, and manufacturers. They handle all forms of construction-related litigation, arbitration, and mediation, including disputes over contracts, mechanics' liens, warranties, delays, and claims against governmental entities. Their deep understanding of the legal and regulatory nuances of the construction industry makes them a strong partner for Taiwanese companies involved in international construction projects or disputes involving US-based entities.
- Real Estate Law: The firm provides comprehensive legal services for a wide range of real estate transactions, from commercial leasing to the purchase and sale of properties valued from millions to hundreds of millions of dollars. They represent purchasers in securing financing, handle real estate brokerage issues and litigation, easements, rights of way, and tax-deferred property exchanges (1031 exchanges). For Taiwanese investors looking at US real estate or dealing with real estate disputes in the US, Goetz Fitzpatrick's expertise can be invaluable.
- Commercial Litigation: Goetz Fitzpatrick's seasoned litigators assist clients in navigating a wide spectrum of business disputes. This includes breach of contract cases, partnership disputes, real estate litigation, and more. - Corporate Law: The firm provides expert counsel to businesses of all sizes on matters of corporate organization and management. This includes forming corporate entities, preparing partnership, corporate, and LLC operating agreements, shareholder and employment agreements, and handling stock and asset sale transactions. They also advise on mergers, acquisitions, employee relations, e-commerce, and regulatory compliance. For Taiwanese companies expanding into the US market or engaging in cross-border transactions, Goetz Fitzpatrick offers the necessary legal guidance.
- Bankruptcy and Creditors' Rights: Goetz Fitzpatrick represents debtors seeking to restructure distressed loans and negotiate with lenders, as well as creditors seeking to protect their rights in bankruptcy proceedings. Their website and legal directories often feature testimonials and case results that highlight their expertise and client satisfaction in the US market, which can be indicative of the level of service international clients can expect.
In recent news, Goetz Fitzpatrick announced a merger with Platzer, Swergold, Goldberg, Katz, and Jaslow LLP, effective January 1, 2025, forming Goetz Platzer LLP. This merger will significantly expand the firm's size and strengthen its core practice areas, including construction law, finance, real estate, commercial litigation, bankruptcy, and trusts & estates. The combined firm will operate under the Goetz Platzer LLP name, with headquarters in New York City. This expansion indicates a continued commitment to providing comprehensive legal services and strengthens their capacity to handle complex, large-scale matters, which could benefit international clients as well.
For local users in Taiwan seeking legal assistance within Taiwan under the "Nearby Lawyers" category, it is recommended to search for law firms and attorneys directly within Taiwan who are licensed to practice law there and have expertise in the relevant area of Taiwanese law. Resources such as the Taiwan Bar Association can be helpful in finding qualified local legal counsel.
In conclusion, while Goetz Fitzpatrick LLP is not physically located in Taiwan, their established expertise in key areas of commercial law, particularly construction, real estate, and litigation, makes them a potentially valuable legal partner for Taiwanese individuals and businesses with legal interests or disputes in the United States. Their long-standing reputation, commitment to client service, and expanding capabilities through the recent merger position them as a firm capable of handling complex legal challenges with an international dimension.

Alison Besunder is a practicing Trusts and Estates attorney (Goetz Fitzpatrick) with remarkably impressive skills. She assertively engages her clients’ needs while at the same time offering reassuring and researched support. Our endorsement of her is without qualification. Ray and Ann Peterson Brooklyn Heights, New York
Today we had a court appointment for Oral Arguments at Surrogate Court. Our attorney Alison was excellent and totally prepared in presenting all the facts of our case to the judge and the court clerk. Though we will have to wait for the judges final decision, our family could not have wanted anyone else by our side today and during these last trying two years.
On a good day Guardianship can be confusing and challenging, especially for a new Guardian. You are constantly familiarizing yourself with new information pertaining to a wide array of topics that come along quickly and consistently. At times you require help and insight from those with more experience specific to the legal intricacies that you may suddenly be encountering. I am thankful that in the vast sea of attorneys to choose from, that I was referred to Alison Arden Besunder of Goetz Fitzpatrick to assist me and the Guardianship in addressing an appeal brought on unexpectedly. Appellate work appears: unique to your case, detail focused, time consuming and requires nuanced skill and approach in response and execution. Ms. Besunder and the members of her team understood the record at hand and responded professionally, with a tone that was very much welcome and tracking with my efforts and focus as Guardian. They were: kind to me, understanding of the situation, communicative, along with being clear in their directions and in the answering of my questions. Ms. Besunder's experience and knowledge along with the efforts and kindness of her team in dealing with this legal matter were welcome during this unexpected and challenging time. Ms. Besunder and Goetz Fitzpatrick have represented me as Guardian and responded to the appeal on my behalf- which I'm very thankful of their efforts. Highly recommended and much appreciated.
Don't recommend; most troubling, Arden Besunder P.C. is purportedly an Elder Law specialist although Alison Besunder, the lead attorney, and perhaps the only attorney, is disengaged, unprofessional and nasty. Instead of sliding scale fee, Arden Besunder P.C. invoices singular $475. hourly rate, applicable for all LEGAL services, including routine paralegal matters such as administration, copies, research, etc. Most lawyers and law firms charge less for services that don't require a lawyer. ’ Although Arden Besunder P.C boasts extensive Elder Law expertise, Ms. Besunder authored a surprisingly SLOPPY, generic court report laden with errors, typos, erroneous assumptions and false information, and even though she was repeatedly provided with input to revise the mistakes. Alison Besunder was too lazy to bother which is infuriating as the Court Report that she authored becomes an important and constantly referred to document going forward. Significantly the report lacked actionable recommendations; instead provided generic recommendations NOT in any way tailored to the respective client. In other words. a sloppy research document not even worthy of a fifth grader. Ms. Besunder states that Mr. Levene was NEVER a client of ALISON ARDEN BESUNDER, TRUSTS, and while technically true, I nevertheless had the misfortune to experience Ms. Besunder first-hand when she used the business profile name of Arden Besunder P.C. To be clear, at that time I was a Client because Ms. Besunder was appointed as legal representative by the court to author a Court Report for my mother. I received an invoice from the Court for services provided by Alison Besunder even though yes, I technically NEVER engaged Alison Besunder myself, the court made that choice. For the record, the name of the firm that received over $8,000 was Alison Arden Besunder, Esq. It would appear that Ms. Besunder has reinvented herself with a new FIRM name several times now. To be very clear,, this GOOGLE review was originally posted on Alison Besunder PC, the former name of this firm and GOOGLE chose to merge that review into a review of her current firm. Bottomline, without question, engage another elder care lawyer. You will thank me.
Alison Arden Besunder, Esq. is an absolute pleasure to work with. She is incredibly detail-oriented and focused, and her writing prowess is unparalleled. She immerses herself in each task at hand, working steadfast to achieve a positive result for her clients. I highly recommend her.
