Client Testimonials:

Gilbert Employment Law, P.C. has received mixed feedback from clients. One client initially reported, "I paid the initial consultation fee $395, met with the lawyer (Mr. Lewis, by phone), after which I received no communication. I follow up asking for status and decision if they intended to take my case or not. I tried to give them space and follow up in between but was told they would look over my case and let me know. To date, Mr. Lewis has not called back with a final decision or any status. I do plan on requesting my refund as, I did my part and they did not. To charge someone a fee and take months to respond and end up not responding at all is unprofessional and shady. At this moment I am moving forward and just want my money back. Especially seeing how it’s been over 90 days." However, this client later updated their review, "Update: I’ve updated the stars due to the timely response to my complaint and the quick issuing of my refund in full. Thank you!" Another client stated, "I submitted the initial consultation fee, met with the lawyer, after which I received no communication at follow up as whether they intended to take my case or not. They told me they would respond withing 48 hours. I asked a number of times if they intended to take the case and got no response. It seems they may be overworked/unorganized; meeting would get rescheduled without informing me, I would have to send multiple follow-up emails to get any response. While the lawyer seemed knowledgeable, the lack of communication seems somewhat unprofessional."

This law firm charged me an initial retainer fee of $7,500 to legally retain my EEO discrimination case, then proceeded to request information that could be used as an additional claim (to be charged extra money for) later in the case. Since I did not want to provide the information, upfront, to prevent the incurrence of more charges (and, it was information that could have been provided as needed, as the case progressed), the lawyer told me he did not trust that I was being totally forthcoming. Long story short, I ended the retainment before I could actually be represented. The lawyer spent less than 2 hours discussing my case with me via email, adding a small amount of verbiage to my complaint form, and placing my employer on notice that he was retained. I disputed the charge and was only refunded $3,750. The last response I received was to give their paralegal a call, to schedule a mutually convenient time to discuss my dissatisfaction with the amount of legal fees. I was given The Fitzpatrick Matrix that lists hourly rates for complex federal litigation legal fees in DC to understand how I was charged, but I don’t know the amount of experience the retained lawyer had in order to get an accurate account of the charges. Still, if the lawyer has 35+ years of experience, $3,750 is more than double what a 35+ years experienced lawyer would charge at a 2023 rate of $807 an hour, for two hours. I do not recall reading that the Matrix’s fees don’t apply to retainer fees. My hopes are for no other person to be scammed by this law firm, especially when they are being discriminated against in the workplace, and can barely afford a lawyer.
