One review highlights a direct and blunt communication style, which the client perceived as efficient and aimed at quickly assessing the legitimacy of a claim and avoiding wasted time and billable hours. This client appreciated the attorney's willingness to provide experienced advice without insisting on being hired, seeing it as a sign of integrity. They advise potential clients to be clear and prepared when contacting Kerry. In contrast, another review describes a negative experience, alleging misleading and dishonest behavior, issues with billing, and poor representation, including lateness to a court date. Promotional information is not explicitly provided in the initial data. However, the positive review mentions a 30-minute initial consultation for $35 through the Oregon State Bar referral service. This could be considered a promotional aspect for those who utilize this referral program. The contrasting negative review, however, serves as a strong caution against potential promotional claims without further investigation. Potential clients should be aware of both positive and negative feedback when considering legal representation.
Choosing a local lawyer offers advantages such as convenience and potential familiarity with the local legal system. Chipman Kerry's office on Northeast Broadway in Portland makes him geographically accessible to many residents and businesses in the area. However, given the conflicting client reviews, it is particularly important for potential clients to conduct thorough due diligence and consider their own communication preferences and legal needs when deciding whether to engage his services.
To gain a more comprehensive understanding of Chipman Kerry's legal services, his professional background, and his approach to client representation, it is strongly recommended that potential clients contact his office directly. An initial phone call or consultation (if available and under what terms) can provide an opportunity to discuss their specific legal situation and assess whether his services align with their needs and expectations. It would also be prudent to inquire about his communication style and billing practices upfront, given the contrasting feedback from previous clients.
In conclusion, Chipman Kerry is an attorney with an office located at 1826 NE Broadway in Portland, OR, listed under the "Nearby Lawyers" category. One review praises his directness and integrity, while another reports significant dissatisfaction and alleges unethical behavior. Given the significant divergence in client experiences, potential clients should approach with caution and prioritize clear communication and a thorough understanding of the terms of engagement. It may be beneficial to ask for references or seek additional information from independent sources before making a decision. The contrast in reviews highlights the subjective nature of client-attorney relationships and the importance of individual compatibility and clear expectations.
For individuals referred through programs like the Oregon State Bar referral service or union assistance programs, it is advisable to carefully consider the initial interaction and ensure that the attorney's communication style and approach are a good fit for their needs and preferences. The experience of one client who appreciated the directness may not be shared by all, as evidenced by the other strongly negative review.
When selecting a "Nearby Lawyer," it is essential to balance convenience with confidence in the attorney's competence and ethical standards. The feedback regarding Chipman Kerry underscores the importance of looking beyond mere proximity and considering the full spectrum of available information, including both positive and negative client experiences, to make an informed decision.
Potential clients should also be prepared to clearly articulate their legal issues and expectations from the outset, as suggested by the positive reviewer. This can help in quickly determining if Chipman Kerry's approach aligns with their needs and can potentially mitigate misunderstandings. However, the negative review serves as a reminder that even with clear communication, issues regarding service and billing can arise.
In summary, Chipman Kerry, a lawyer located on NE Broadway in Portland, OR, offers local legal services. Client reviews present contrasting views on his professionalism and service quality. Potential clients should contact him directly at (503) 281-3436 or +1 503-281-3436 for more information and conduct thorough due diligence before considering his representation.

We had a very good experience with Kerry, but we can see why some people do not. Based on our experience we see the difference is whether you are prepared to have an intelligent conversation with a lawyer or if you bring more drama than facts to a conversation. Kerry was referred to us by the Oregon State Bar referral service which provides a 30 minute initial meeting for $35. The call to set up an appointment was rough because Kerry was very blunt. We assumed he was trying to quickly determine if we were looking to file a frivolous suit or if we had a legitimate claim. We quickly showed that we had a legitimate claim. We were fine with his bluntness because we would rather a lawyer get to the point quickly instead of trying to build a superficial relationship with a client that leads to a lot of wasted time and billable hours. That quick conversation led to the actual 30 minute phone call. We explained the issue and he talked us through scenarios. He clearly explained what we should do next and that we did not need to hire him to do it for us. It was a huge sign of his professionalism that he gave his experienced opinion without insisting that we needed to hire him. When any professional will legitimately help a client and walk away from money on the table because it is the right thing to do then you should know that the person has integrity. Our advice to you is be clear on what happened to lead to you wanting to hire a lawyer and what you want before you call Kerry. Be ok with any initial bluntness as a sign that he is trying to not waste your time and his. That ‘getting to the point’ approach is what saves you a lot of money.
Kerry Chipman was referred by my union assistance program to represent my partner in a case. Worst experience possible dealing with an attorney. The man was misleading, dis honest and the perfect example of bait and switch. Not only will we be reporting him to the state bar but we will be going to small claims court filing a petition with documentation proving he did not do his job ethically and creating bills and charges that he made to get extra money after the case was over, even though my partner has a signed contract agreeing to a flat rate for services. Walking into the court house with no attorney & no representing being at the mercy of the court, she would have received 90% of the exact same deal she got by hiring Mr. Chipman for $2000. Oh did I forget to mention that he showed up on to court date late & missed an opportunity to negotiate a deal with the DA because the DA was in court already due to scheduled times. I could go on and on but I will leave the rest of the information for the small claims court & the Oregon State bar to deal with this travesty of an attorney being biased & not forthcoming to their own client. We also have an email that Mr. Chipman sent of possible retaliation due to the fact that my partner reached out to my union for assistance in regards to her feeling as though she was being misrepresented as a client. He was unprofessional and lost my case. He lied to me regarding the results of the suit. He took 5k from me, a disabled woman. When I sent him a detailed letter of his shortcomings, he wrote back that he was helping me pro bono and that I was surely not going to pay him 3k more that he now wanted BECAUSE I WAS DISABLED, and this is how disabled people behaved, i.e. dishonorably. He finished his letter by firing me as his client. This was peculiar to me because I thought our business had been done for some time. Don't hire him. If you've already done so, try to get a refund and run as far away as you can from this man. I wish I could give him zero stars.

AND THEN WE HAD A QUESTION TOWARDS THE END OF THE MEETING AND HIS RESPONSE WAS (OUT OF TIME NO MORE QUESTIONS. WE WOULD HAD BEEN MORE THEN HAPPY TO PAY FOR MORE TIME TO LET HIM KNOW ABOUT HOW WE HAD BEEN DONE WRONG. BUT HE DID SEEM TO CARE. CARED MORE ABOUT LOOKING AT HIS PHONE TO SEE IF HIS WIFE WAS CALLING .WE ONLY WERE ABLE TO ASK ABOUT HALF THE QUESTIONS we need to .BUT AGAIN DIDN'T SEEM TO CARE. BEWARE!!!
