Court and attorneys are never very pleasant. Mrs Brown changed all of that for me. The whole process was much more understood and easy to deal with. She saved me from making many mistakes.I would recommend her to everyone that needs help.Best experience for what it was.
Victoria is an extremely good lawyer. She has a private practice and according to her Avvo profile, she focuses on probate, internet, business, and real estate. I called her yesterday to discuss a real estate case that I was involved in and she spotted the weaknesses of my case right away. Let me warn you that she talks fast. But, this is a good thing. This means she thinks fast. I think she’s faster than any other lawyer I've met. And, I've met A LOT of lawyers due to my line of work. (I had a simple case drag on for 15 years. I’m sorry but some of you, tenants really exploit the rent control laws.) I could tell right away that she "understood" the law. You'd be surprised the percentage of lawyers that really don't understand the law that they are supposed to know inside and out. They can’t connect the dots. Although I disagreed with Victoria on a few points, I was impressed. I think we talked about my case for about an hour. As we broke down the pros and cons of the issues, I really got to know her. I learned that she has dealt with over 700 real estate cases, 20% of them were litigation. That’s good. That means she's done enough cases to be exposed to the related law and “knows” it (IMHO the average lawyer doesn’t "know" the law they specialize in). This applies to all professions I guess. Last week, I met a person who worked as a plumber for 40 years who literally didn’t know visually the difference between a check valve and a gate valve. I was in shock. You learn this the 1st day as a plumber. I don’t know how people get away with this but they do. There is one more thing I noticed. I think there are 2 lawyers. There is the one who truly looks out for their client’s interests and the clock isn’t so important. Then, there is the other that looks out heavily out for their own interests – the clock and self-protection. It’s hard to spot the difference. The second type makes sure that they are protected first, not you (thus, pushes for very conservative decisions so they don’t open themselves up for malpractice) and they lie on their hours. Sometimes, it’s sooo obvious. One lawyer last week, evidently didn’t get close to the hours he expected, so as the case wound down, he would talk slowly, pause and think before saying anything, etc. It was so comical. It’s this bad sometimes. There are a few lawyers that don’t care about the clock too much and cares for the person. And, my hunch is Victoria is one of them. From what I’ve seen, Victoria, on the outside, seems like a very aggressive and blunt lawyer. Some may even say brusque. However, I think if you can see beyond that, you will find that she’s a very caring person. She just has trouble expressing that. I am like that too (or I think I am)! Oh yeah, her rates are very fair. My Tip for Hiring & Managing A Lawyer I’ll end with one thing I learned. Legal fees are expensive. Very expensive. A way to minimize this is to always verbally ask how much the lawsuit is going to cost at each stage of the case. Nearly every lawyer is going to refuse to answer this question but push for it, asking for a range. Tell them you need to budget for your legal fees. Afterward, send an email stating what was said. Then, when the case is progressing and the costs start to fast approach their estimate (it always does), remind them of what they said and the fees usually start to decrease for a bit. Your legal fees will be double otherwise. Also, always ask for references, obviously.
Great attorney, hardworking! Consider her a valuable person to be in touch with for legal needs.
