Utah Legal Services Introduce
Welcome to the profile of Utah Legal Services, a non-profit organization located at 960 S Main St, Salt Lake City, UT 84101, USA. As a vital resource within the 'Nearby Lawyers' category, Utah Legal Services is dedicated to providing legal assistance to low-income individuals and vulnerable populations in Salt Lake City and throughout Utah. Their mission is to ensure equal access to justice for those who cannot afford legal representation. This introduction aims to provide local users with an objective overview of the organization based on available online reviews.
Utah Legal Services operates from their office on South Main Street in Salt Lake City. As a non-profit entity, their environment is likely focused on accessibility and providing a welcoming space for clients seeking legal aid. The organization serves as a crucial point of contact for individuals facing legal challenges who might otherwise go unrepresented. Being listed in the 'Nearby Lawyers' category underscores their commitment to serving the local community with essential legal support.
The services provided by Utah Legal Services encompass a range of civil legal issues aimed at addressing the needs of low-income individuals and families. Based on the positive review, one area of their expertise includes housing law, specifically handling eviction cases. The successful outcome reported by a client in an eviction case suggests proficiency in this area. While the full scope of their services isn't detailed in the provided reviews, it is common for legal aid organizations to assist with matters such as family law (excluding criminal cases in many instances), housing, public benefits, consumer issues, and protection from domestic violence. Individuals seeking assistance should contact Utah Legal Services directly to inquire about the specific legal issues they handle.
One of the key features of Utah Legal Services is their commitment to providing legal representation to those who cannot afford it. This fundamental principle of equal access to justice drives their work. The positive review highlights the professionalism, knowledge, and kindness of one of their attorneys, Mr. Crook, indicating the caliber of legal support they strive to offer. The client's strong satisfaction and willingness to give a "plus five stars" rating underscores the positive impact their services can have on individuals facing challenging legal situations.
However, it is important to consider all available feedback to present a balanced view. One review expresses dissatisfaction, stating that Utah Legal Services would not help the reviewer because they are a father, suggesting a perceived bias or limitation in their service provision. The reviewer's sentiment reflects a feeling that it is "more difficult to have rights as a father" and that the organization prioritizes mothers over fathers. This perspective indicates a potential area of concern for some individuals seeking their assistance and highlights the complexities and potential limitations of a legal aid organization's scope and priorities.
Given the nature of Utah Legal Services as a non-profit, their resources and eligibility criteria for assistance are likely determined by various factors, including income guidelines and the specific type of legal issue. It is possible that certain cases or individuals may not meet their criteria for assistance. The comment regarding difficulty in helping fathers might stem from specific program priorities or resource constraints, rather than an intentional bias. However, this feedback is crucial for local users to consider when exploring their options for legal aid.
As a non-profit organization, Utah Legal Services typically does not engage in promotional activities in the same way as private law firms. Their outreach efforts are usually focused on raising awareness about their services among eligible populations and securing funding to support their mission. Therefore, specific promotional information is not expected to be available.
For local users in Salt Lake City, UT, who believe they may be eligible for legal aid, Utah Legal Services can be contacted at (801) 328-8891 or +1 801-328-8891. However, the negative review indicates that their services may not be available to everyone or in all circumstances. Potential clients should be prepared to discuss their situation in detail to determine if they qualify for assistance.
In conclusion, Utah Legal Services in Salt Lake City, UT, plays a critical role in providing access to justice for low-income individuals. The positive feedback regarding their handling of an eviction case highlights the professionalism and effectiveness of their attorneys. I'm very pleased with Mr. Crook, my attorney who worked on my eviction case from Utah Legal Services! He did a fantastic job. He's very professional, knowledgeable, and kind. He's one of a kind. Thanks again, Mr. Crook. Kudos!! This review deserves plus five stars!!! 👏
They won’t help me because I’m a father. It’s more difficult to help a father than it is a mother. It is increasingly difficult to have rights as a father.
They don’t care to help do what’s best to protect kids and victims of domestic violence. In fact they encourage to deal with abuser.
This service is a mockery to the idea of "help" and made the entire situation worse than if I'd simply tried to represent myself, costing me tens of thousands of dollars and then releasing me as a client before my divorce was finalized resulting in additional court cases, fines, attorney's fees, and difficulty. Every single lawyer working here should be disbarred. They are soulless swine who claim to offer help and in fact do not have their clients best interest at heart, do not fight for their clients rights, do not understand domestic abuse despite citing it as one of the main things they help with, and do not care enough to even remember what's happening in the case. my attorney representing me asking me each and every time she spoke with me "what the case is about again" and not following through on any of the motions she promised to file on my behalf even when i would call to remind her multiple times a week, did not include any of the things in the divorce decree we discussed, and released me as a client before the case was even over. The attorney representing me even told me my case would be held over zoom, and did not answer her cell or office phone or respond to any of my emails or texts i sent asking for the zoom link the day before and morning of, only to finally call me nearly 2 hours into the in person court appearance to ask where I was and if i could make the 1+hr drive to get there in the following 10 minutes which i obviously could not. They did not fight for or include the medical bills i incurred at the hands of my abusive ex in the divorce decree despite promising to do so to ensure i was not left with tens of thousands of dollars in medical debt at the hands of my abuser, they did not fight to ensure i got at least a portion of the sale of my own stolen vehicle when my ex stole and then illegally sold my vehicle midway through the divorce case without my signature on the title and then illegally spent the full amount they sold the vehicle for despite it being listed as a marital asset, they did not fight to ensure i got my ring back when my ex sent a friend to my home to steal my engagement ring and threatened me with violence, they lied to me and told me the police reports and text messages i had showing my ex was abusive could not be used in court because they are "hear-say" something I have learned since speaking with other attorneys is not true, they did not represent me in a later motion to enforce the divorce decree leaving me on my own despite having evidence in their possession that the motion to enforce was nonsense and despite the fact that i was actively recovering from multiple traumatic brain injuries and desperately needed help resulting in me owing thousands in attorney's fees, they threw me under the bus lying to my ex's attorney saying that I was being uncooperative and refusing to communicate despite there being a record of emails back and forth between myself and the attorney representing me. Absolutely atrocious to offer to help those who desperately need it most and completely butcher their case through a combination of negligence and lack of concern for the clients who are, by definition in order to receive their assistance, abuse victims. This is the absolute worst place someone needing help can go to seek it. Unconscionable treatment of humans and indescribable, seemingly intentional negligence that will put you in a far worse place for having received their "help".

This service is great if you want to understand what you most likely already understand. These are paralegals, or similar that explain your options to you. My experience was a bit frustrating as she did not speak fluent English and did not seem to listen very well, then repeated irrelevant already shared information tk me that was not of importance the first time she shared it with me.
