For individuals and businesses in the Portland, Oregon area seeking information and services related to bankruptcy, our "Nearby Lawyers" platform provides details about the US Bankruptcy Court located at 1050 SW 6th Ave #700, Portland, OR 97204, USA. It's important to clarify that the US Bankruptcy Court is not a law firm offering legal representation in the traditional sense. Instead, it is a federal court that oversees bankruptcy proceedings in a specific jurisdiction. As such, it provides a formal environment for administering bankruptcy cases under the provisions of the United States Bankruptcy Code.
The US Bankruptcy Court for the District of Oregon, located on the 7th floor of a building on SW 6th Avenue in downtown Portland, operates within a formal judicial setting. The environment is characterized by courtrooms, clerk's offices, and administrative spaces necessary for the functioning of a federal court. Individuals visiting the Bankruptcy Court can expect a professional atmosphere with established procedures and protocols that must be followed. The court's facilities are designed to accommodate hearings, filings, and interactions with court staff. Security measures are typically in place to ensure the safety and orderliness of the proceedings.
The primary service provided by the US Bankruptcy Court is the administration of bankruptcy cases. This includes overseeing cases filed under various chapters of the Bankruptcy Code, such as Chapter 7 (liquidation), Chapter 13 (reorganization for individuals with regular income), and others. The court's functions involve processing filings, scheduling hearings, appointing trustees, and ensuring compliance with federal bankruptcy laws and local rules. The court staff, including clerks and other administrative personnel, play a crucial role in managing the procedural aspects of bankruptcy cases. They can provide information about filing requirements, court schedules, and general court procedures. However, it is essential to understand that court staff cannot provide legal advice.
Features of the US Bankruptcy Court include its role as the official forum for bankruptcy proceedings, adherence to federal law and established rules, and the availability of resources for understanding the bankruptcy process. The court maintains records of all bankruptcy cases filed within its jurisdiction, and these records are generally accessible to the public, subject to certain confidentiality rules. The court may also provide access to self-help resources or information sessions to assist individuals who are considering filing for bankruptcy without an attorney. However, these resources typically focus on procedural aspects rather than legal advice tailored to specific situations.
It is important to note that the US Bankruptcy Court itself does not offer legal representation or advocate on behalf of any party in a bankruptcy case. Individuals considering bankruptcy are strongly advised to seek legal counsel from a qualified bankruptcy attorney who can provide personalized advice and representation. Attorneys listed in our "Nearby Lawyers" category who specialize in bankruptcy law can assist with determining the appropriate bankruptcy chapter to file, preparing the necessary documents, and representing clients in court proceedings.
Promotional information is not applicable to the US Bankruptcy Court as it is a governmental entity rather than a service provider seeking clients. However, the court does aim to provide efficient and accessible administration of bankruptcy cases within its jurisdiction. The web site was more confusing and frustrating than anything. If it is not designed to help you, than what is the purpose? Clearly the people who set this up have never tried to use it!!!!
Very professional staff in the Bankruptcy Department. They're always very helpful and willing to go the extra mile to help out, even with calling in multiple times in a day to confirm filed forms. Have received zero hints of judgment towards me at any point.
Very helpful
There's lots of forms and it's hard to tell which ones you need to download.
Very nice and helpful staff
