As a platform connecting local users with "Nearby Lawyers," we aim to present an objective overview of legal services available in the community. Timothy D Smith Law Offices is listed as a legal service provider in Charlotte. It is important to consider all available information when evaluating legal representation. The provided data includes a mix of strongly positive and vehemently negative reviews from individuals who have interacted with this law office. This divergence in experiences necessitates a careful and balanced consideration for potential clients.
One positive review expresses a belief that negative feedback might stem from the emotional nature of family court proceedings, where unfavorable verdicts could lead clients to unfairly blame their attorneys. This reviewer states they have consistently experienced "complete politeness" from Mr. Smith and his team across two cases. Another positive review highly recommends Mr. Smith, emphasizing his knowledge of the "soooooooo disorganized" Mecklenburg court system and portraying him as a "real down to earth person" who genuinely cares about his clients and their cases despite being busy. A brief "Thanks for everything Tim!" further supports a positive client experience.
Conversely, two highly negative reviews paint a drastically different picture. One reviewer uses strong language ("AWFUL! TERRIBLE! **DO NOT HIRE**") and labels Mr. Smith as "UNPREPARED! UNPROFESSIONAL!" They guarantee that hiring Mr. Smith will lead to regret, citing their child custody/visitation and child support case as being "BUTCHERED" from start to finish, resulting in the "worst possible outcome." Specific complaints include the difficulty of contacting Mr. Smith, rushed and unproductive phone conversations, misleading guidance, a lack of discussed game plan, and a perceived prioritization of fees over case strategy. The reviewer also alleges significant errors in calculating parenting days and income, leading to excessive child support payments. The frantic last-minute communication is interpreted as a sign of neglect throughout the case.
This negative review extends to Mr. Smith's paralegal, Tonya Bailey, who is described as "rude, obnoxious, unhelpful, and knowledgeable," frequently interrupting and behaving impatiently. The reviewer claims that crucial information that could have aided their case was never utilized in court, and the handling of the case felt rushed and dismissive of their concerns. Ultimately, this client felt so poorly represented that they had to reopen their case with a different attorney to rectify the mistakes made, strongly advising others to avoid Timothy D Smith Law Offices to prevent similar financial and emotional distress.
Given these conflicting accounts, it is challenging to definitively describe the typical services and features of Timothy D Smith Law Offices. The positive reviews suggest competence, particularly within the Mecklenburg County court system, a caring and personable approach, and polite service. However, the negative reviews raise serious concerns about preparedness, professionalism, communication, attention to detail (specifically in family law matters like custody and support), and the conduct of the paralegal staff. The stark contrast implies that client experiences may vary significantly.
In terms of promotional information, the positive testimonials could be seen as endorsements highlighting Mr. Smith's knowledge and caring nature. However, these are directly contradicted by the detailed and severe criticisms in the negative reviews, which serve as a strong caution against relying solely on positive feedback. Potential clients must weigh these conflicting perspectives carefully. The negative experiences, particularly the allegations of significant errors in critical calculations and the failure to utilize helpful information, should prompt serious consideration and thorough investigation.
In conclusion, Timothy D Smith Law Offices in Charlotte, NC, presents a complex and contradictory picture based on the available online reviews. While some clients report positive experiences, citing Mr. Smith's knowledge of the local court system and his caring demeanor, others describe profoundly negative outcomes, alleging unprofessionalism, unpreparedness, poor communication, and significant errors in case management, particularly in family law matters. Potential local users seeking legal services from Timothy D Smith Law Offices should be aware of these strongly divergent opinions and are strongly advised to conduct thorough due diligence. This should include directly contacting the office at (704) 334-9909 or +1 704-334-9909 to inquire about their specific areas of practice, experience with cases similar to their own, and to seek references or additional information to make a well-informed decision about their legal representation.

I don't know what happened with this other woman's case who did not recommend Mr. Smith but, I can only say that family court is so emotional and if the verdict does not go your way...you have to blame somebody and, of course, you will go with the least emotional attachment, which in most cases is your lawyer. I also wonder if the lady leaving the review had a bad attitude as well. I have never experienced anything but complete politeness from Mr. Smith and his team and I went to him for two cases. I highly recommend Mr. Smith and his team. He is extremely knowledge able the Mecklenburg court system, which is what you need because that particular county is soooooooo disorganized. Also, he is a real down to earth person that, though he may be busy, really cares about your case and you as a person. Thanks for everything Tim!
AWFUL! TERRIBLE! **DO NOT HIRE** UNPREPARED! UNPROFESSIONAL! Hire Mr. Smith and I guarantee you will be painfully sorry you did. I just closed case in May 2016 and it was the worst possible outcome for my family & myself. DO NOT BE FOOLED BY ANY OTHER REVIEW OR RECOMMENDATION you may hear or have heard. My case was a matter of child custody/visitation and child support & BUTCHERED the entire case from beginning to end. To start, getting him on the phone was impossible. When you finally do, its rushed and nothing was really discussed. His guidance was misleading. No game plan on my case was ever discussed. Only if he discussed my case with me as much as he brought up a dollar amount, maybe we could have gotten further. He and/or his AWFUL paralegal did not accurately calculate the days I would have my child to support my joint custody plea. They also completely miscalculated my income and that led to an excess of monthly support to be paid. HOW DO YOU DROP THE BALL ON THIS??? I was receiving FRANTIC & FREQUENTLY calls from Ms. Bailey the paralegal and Mr. Smith himself up until the very last minute of this case. They never displayed this much enthusiasm throughout the case. This leads me to believe they were just sitting on my case and began scrambling at the last minute to make it look like something. This representation was SO INADEQUATE, it brought me to tears. I cannot give this man & his practice not even ONE SINGLE star because in my experience, he doesnt deserve to practice law in this capacity, working with families and impacting their lives. His paralegal, Tonya Bailey is rude, obnoxious, unhelpful, and knowledgeable. She doesnt let you complete a sentence she frequently cuts you off, impatient and behaves as if she is volunteering her time vs at work. I obtained so much helpful information that would have enhanced my case and he never used it in court. He rushed through my case as if my concerns and requests werent important. I was treated like I wasnt paying him to represent. Well over $4200 later, my case was butchered, I lost miserably in court and now have to reopen my case with real attorney to correct the mistakes made in my case. I wish I would have read a review like this one to save me the time in court and money I lost. PLEASE DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME & MONEY LIKE I DID.
