Based on recent feedback from individuals who have interacted with Smith, McDonald, Vaught & Rudolph, it is important for potential clients to consider the experiences shared. One detailed review expresses significant dissatisfaction with the services provided by attorney Nathan and his assistant, Brook Wood, in a case involving the recovery of funds stolen by a former handyman. The client, a 77-year-old individual, alleges that despite charging nearly $8000 over approximately eight months, the firm was unable to locate the individual or recover the $19,000 in losses. The review further mentions that the firm dissuaded the client from hiring a private investigator, suggesting it would be too expensive, only to allegedly deliver no results at a substantial cost. The client characterizes this outcome as an "abject failure" and "elder abuse upon elder abuse," highlighting a profound level of disappointment and perceived mistreatment.
Another concise review simply states, "Never got the opportunity to give them a higher rating," which, while brief, suggests a less than satisfactory initial impression or experience that did not warrant a more positive assessment.
A third review details frustration with the firm's intake process and communication. The reviewer recounts contacting the firm based on their purported open availability for case evaluations. After spending 20 minutes providing the subject matter of their potential case to the person answering the phone, they were promised a return call, reportedly on three separate occasions. However, after eight days, the call had not been returned. This lack of follow-up left a negative impression on the potential client, who expressed their disapproval of a law firm that fails to honor its promises of a timely response.
Considering these recent client reviews, the environment at Smith, McDonald, Vaught & Rudolph, at least in some client interactions, appears to be characterized by issues with communication, case management, and potentially, the achievement of desired outcomes. The negative feedback regarding the lack of results in the theft case, coupled with the significant fees charged, raises concerns about the firm's effectiveness in certain situations. Additionally, the failure to return phone calls for a case evaluation suggests potential shortcomings in client intake and follow-up procedures.
The services offered by Smith, McDonald, Vaught & Rudolph are not explicitly detailed in the provided reviews. However, we can infer that at least one area of practice involves assisting clients in recovering funds in theft cases. The mention of a case evaluation also suggests they likely handle a range of legal matters for which initial consultations are offered. Nevertheless, the experiences shared in the reviews do not provide a comprehensive overview of their service offerings or the quality of service across all potential practice areas.
In terms of features, the firm's location in Standard Plaza suggests a professional office environment. However, based on the client feedback, potential features such as effective case management, transparent communication, and successful outcomes may be areas where some clients have experienced shortcomings. The fact that a private investigator was deemed too expensive by the firm, yet their own efforts allegedly yielded no results at a high cost, might be a point of consideration for individuals with similar needs.
Promotional information is limited and, in light of the recent reviews, potentially overshadowed by negative experiences. While the firm may present itself as openly available for case evaluations, the reported failure to follow through on promised return calls could deter potential clients. The lack of positive testimonials regarding successful outcomes and client satisfaction in these recent reviews does not provide strong promotional support for their services at this time.
In conclusion, the recent client reviews for Smith, McDonald, Vaught & Rudolph in Portland, Oregon, present a cautionary picture for potential clients. The allegations of ineffective service and high fees in a theft recovery case, coupled with concerns about communication and follow-through on case evaluations, raise significant questions about the firm's client service and effectiveness in these instances. Local users in the 'Nearby Lawyers' category are strongly advised to carefully consider these recent experiences when evaluating whether Smith, McDonald, Vaught & Rudolph is the right legal representation for their needs and may wish to seek further information or consider alternative legal options.

Nathan & his assistant Brook Wood apparently tried to locate a former handyman who stole from me upwards of 19K. Over a period of nearly 8 months they came up with absolutely nothing but still charged me nearly $8000. And this after dissuading me from hiring a private investigator claiming that would be too expensive! I consider their very pricy abject failure to be elder abuse upon elder abuse. I'm 77.
Never got the opportunity to give them a higher rating. I don't appreciate a law firm who purports their services as openly available for a case evaluation, has the person answering the phone take down 20 minutes of subject matter, promises a future return call (3 times!), and after 8 days does not return the call.
Outstanding group of highly intelligent and professional attorneys. Handled a very complicated estate/trust as well as will for myself and family. Highly recommend Joseph McDonald and Nathan Rudolph.
It was ok.
