Welcome to our platform for Nearby Lawyers, connecting you with legal professionals in your local area. If you are a resident or business in Yonkers, New York, seeking legal counsel, Smith Buss & Jacobs LLP is a law firm located at 733 Yonkers Ave Suite 200 that offers a variety of legal services. Understanding the nuances of legal practices and client experiences is crucial when choosing the right legal representation. This introduction aims to provide an objective overview of Smith Buss & Jacobs LLP based on the available information.
The physical environment of Smith Buss & Jacobs LLP is likely a standard professional office setting, situated in Suite 200 of a building on Yonkers Avenue. While specific details about the office decor or client waiting areas are not provided, one can generally expect a professional atmosphere conducive to legal consultations and work. The location on Yonkers Avenue suggests accessibility for clients within the city and potentially surrounding areas.
Based on the limited review information, the services offered by Smith Buss & Jacobs LLP appear to be diverse, potentially covering areas such as business law, real estate, litigation, and housing law. One client specifically mentioned consulting with a partner, Jeff Buss, suggesting he may handle cases in areas beyond housing. However, the experience reported with Mr. Buss was negative, citing unprofessional behavior and a lack of follow-through after an initial consultation. This feedback indicates a potential inconsistency in client service within the firm.
In contrast, another review offers high praise for Ilene Guralnick, who was referred through the NY City Bar Legal Referral Service. This suggests that Ms. Guralnick may specialize or have significant experience in housing-related legal issues. The client specifically noted her helpful advice in resolving a dispute with a landlord without prolonged litigation, resulting in financial savings. This positive feedback highlights Ms. Guralnick as a potentially valuable resource for individuals facing housing law challenges in the Yonkers area.
Considering the limited scope of the reviews, it is challenging to definitively outline all the features of Smith Buss & Jacobs LLP as a whole. However, we can infer some aspects based on the individual experiences. The firm has multiple partners, as indicated by the mention of Jeff Buss, suggesting a capacity to handle various legal matters. The referral through the NY City Bar Legal Referral Service for Ilene Guralnick implies that at least some of the firm's attorneys are recognized by professional legal organizations.
The contrasting experiences in the reviews highlight a critical point for potential clients: the importance of individual attorney competence and professionalism. While one client reported a negative experience with a lack of communication and follow-through from one partner, another praised the helpfulness and effectiveness of a different attorney within the same firm. This suggests that the quality of service may vary depending on the specific lawyer you work with at Smith Buss & Jacobs LLP.
From a promotional standpoint, the positive review regarding Ilene Guralnick serves as an indirect endorsement for her services, particularly in housing law. The client's satisfaction and willingness to recommend her for housing-related legal issues could attract individuals facing similar situations in Yonkers. However, the negative review regarding Jeff Buss acts as a cautionary note, suggesting that potential clients may want to inquire specifically about the attorney who will be handling their case and perhaps seek references or additional information.
It is important to note that two reviews provide a limited snapshot of the overall practice of Smith Buss & Jacobs LLP. The firm likely has a broader range of expertise and a larger client base than reflected in these two experiences. However, these firsthand accounts offer valuable insights into potential strengths and weaknesses within the firm. The positive experience with Ilene Guralnick suggests a strong capability in housing law, while the negative experience with Jeff Buss raises concerns about consistent professionalism and client communication.
For local users in Yonkers seeking legal assistance, Smith Buss & Jacobs LLP, located at 733 Yonkers Ave Suite 200, can be contacted at (914) 476-0600 or +1 914-476-0600. However, given the negative experience reported with another partner, it would be prudent for potential clients to conduct thorough due diligence, ask for specific information about the attorney assigned to their case, and perhaps seek additional references to ensure a good fit for their legal needs. Understanding the individual strengths and potential areas for concern within the firm can help local users make informed decisions when choosing legal representation.
In conclusion, Smith Buss & Jacobs LLP offers legal services in Yonkers, NY. While one client reported unprofessional behavior with a partner, another client highly recommended Ilene Guralnick for housing-related legal issues. Potential clients should consider these contrasting experiences and conduct further research to determine if this firm aligns with their specific legal needs and expectations.

Unprofessional behavior, they only waste your time. Consulted with one of the partners, Jeff Buss, who led us on, saying they can take the case, only to be ignored afterwards. Spent hours prepping material to provide, for him to ignore all following messages and calls afterwards. He did not have the respect or courtesy to respond, even honestly declining to take on the case. Very unprofessional.
I don't know about anyone else at the firm, but Ilene Guralnick was referred to us by the NY City Bar Legal Referral Service, and she was incredibly helpful. Her advice helped us out of a jam with a lousy landlord without a protracted legal fight, saving us a lot of money. I recommend contacting her for housing related legal issues.
Ken Jacobs is an exceptional attorney. I would highly recommend him for any complex real estate matter. If it pertains to a cooperative or condominium, even more the reason to hire him. Ken has a deep understanding of offering plans, governing documents, lease and license agreements. Not to mention a ton of wisdom to go along with it. My wife and I were impressed not only with how hard Ken worked for us, but also with how effectively he communicated with us. On a scale of 1 to 5, I give him a fifteen (15) for responsiveness. Our calls were answered, our emails were read, he zealously advocated for us, and we could tell that he genuinely cared. Thank you Ken and everyone at SBJ Law.
Self serving, disrespectful, unhelpful and condescending. I initially called this law firm to workout a payment plan for past due maintenance fees (which the management firm that hired them was at fault for) and was met with nothing but rebuttals and condescending tones. They were extremely unhelpful and they probably would have made matters worst if I didn't take the situation into my own hands and pay what was due in full at that moment. Get this....once full payment was received, they sent another letter to my home threatening me to leave and that I was not allowed to stay there. Whoa! Do not hire this company. The management firm that hired them is incompetent. Not sure why I thought their legal team would be any better.
I would not recommend Michael Coppa, who is an associate at this firm. He was slow to respond throughout the process and rescheduled my closing date multiple times. Then on the day of closing (which he suggested), not only did he not show up, he added the wrong address for the FedEx delivery of a lot of the important paperwork (deed, etc). We had to call him almost a dozen times to get this fixed, and only after badgering multiple times did we ultimately find a work around. Then a lot of the paperwork he emailed over had the wrong unit number and other incorrect information - almost as if he just blindly CTRL-V'ed things over to us. During this whole process, he proved to be completely unprofessional, non-empathetic, and non-cooperative. What made it even more infuriating was that their secretary was also extremely unprofessional, putting us immediately on hold mid-sentence, hanging up, and/or giving attitude. I am so fortunate to have had a great lawyer, title company rep, and bank lawyer present to help me get across the finish line, or else the closing would not have happened.
