Reviews

  • They say contact them if I have any questions. Then they want to charge me $190 for getting answers to those questions. So, in order to talk to somebody, I can’t call the person who hired them, but they’ll answer my questions for $190. Nowhere in the notification does it say that I have to pay to get questions answered, I can’t talk to anyone, because I’m not going to pay them to answer my questions. There are two unsigned names on form–John Ricci and Megan Meyerhoff They took their sweet time about sending the notification because the date printed out on the form is March 21. Then they mailed it on April 2. I got it on April 16. No 30-day notice. 21 days. There was no signature on either page, so the undersigned part is just nonsense. Maybe a loophole.
  • I had a consult with this firm in November 2024 for a chapter 7 bankruptcy filing. The initial consult went well and I was under the impression my case would be handled expediently, especially when the retainer quoted seemed a bit high (false sense of quality). I paid my retainer and filing fees and waited. Long story shortened, my case bounced around to three different paralegals before anyone even started work on my case in January 2025. Not only that, but it began taking weeks to receive responses back from the firm/emails in regards to documents needed and status updates. The final straw after months of poor communication came in the form of an invoice for $420, which wasn’t communicated ahead of time. I was being charged for an email response (?), as well as for putting a document together that was a part of my case pre-filing. When I tried to email my paralegal about the charge and for a status update, considering it had been months of very little progress, I received no response and have not heard from anyone associated with my case in over a month. At the end of the day, this firm was paid close to $3000 and literally did nothing except sift through documents and create an excel spreadsheet of debts, with most of that information being provided by myself initially through my own documents/spreadsheets. Needless to say, they won’t be getting any more money or time from me and I would not recommend them to anyone else.
  • Starting with the first woman I spoke with, Hannah, she was so kind! Very helpful through my panic of calling the right lawyer. I have never had the privilege to speak with someone of such intelligence before my consult with Mr. Muchoney. I thought my inability to control my running mouth would confuse him or not quite add up. He never missed a beat, always makes me feel like a top priority. All this while breaking everything down in a way I can easily digest. I can’t say enough good things. Highly recommend!
  • Upon becoming a new client, I was initially excited about using a local office. Unfortunately, my experience quickly turned sour. After providing a retainer and consulting with an attorney, I was misled about the services and associated costs. The pricing turned out to be different from what was initially communicated. I regret not securing a written agreement to hold them accountable, which was an oversight on my part. This experience has been disappointing, and I am unlikely to return. Thank you for the lesson learned, albeit through a negative experience.
  • I paid for a consultation and completed the on-boarding process, which included a substantial retainer deposit. I was informed that any unused portion would be refunded, but based on my experience, the firm appears to charge for every minor expense to minimize refunds. One particularly questionable charge was for "printing and scanning to file" an unnecessary expense in today's digital age, given that the documents were already in digital format. The attorney assigned to my case seemed disengaged and focused more on emphasizing potential fees rather than providing meaningful legal guidance. This ultimately led me to part ways with the firm, a decision I now consider the only positive outcome of my experience. After reading other reviews and reflecting on my own interactions, it's clear that this firm fees are way high above standard average, which makes clients feel the financial burden that they are being nickel-and-dimed. Along with lack of transparency with regards to client concerns/cases. I strongly advise others to consider alternatives before retaining their services. -Always research thoroughly before hiring legal representation. -Request a clear breakdown of fees upfront. -Be cautious of firms that employ predatory practices. There are ethical attorneys who work on contingency (taking a percentage only if you win) or pro bono, seek them out instead.

About O'Flaherty Law

O'Flaherty Law is a legal firm operating in Naperville, IL, situated at 1515 Legacy Cir Ste. 1A, Naperville, IL 60563, USA. As a firm listed within the "Nearby Lawyers" category, it aims to serve the local community with various legal services. Clients can reach them via phone at (331) 241-6317 or through their mobile contact at +1 331-241-6317.

The firm generally presents itself as a comprehensive legal service provider. While specific details on all their practice areas are not fully enumerated in the provided snippet, online information about O'Flaherty Law typically indicates a broad range of services. These commonly include areas such as estate planning (wills, trusts, probate), family law (divorce, child custody), real estate transactions, business law, and bankruptcy. The inclusion of a Chapter 7 bankruptcy filing in one of the client reviews confirms their engagement in this specific area of law. A firm offering such a diverse portfolio aims to be a single point of contact for multiple legal needs for individuals and businesses.

The office environment at 1515 Legacy Cir Ste. 1A, in Naperville, suggests a modern and professional setting. Legacy Circle implies a relatively new or well-maintained commercial development. A legal office in such a location would typically be designed to provide a comfortable and confidential space for client consultations, equipped with the necessary resources for legal work. While specific details about the interior design or amenities are not available, the expectation for a law firm in a suburban professional complex would be a clean, organized, and accessible space.

However, an objective introduction necessitates addressing the significant concerns raised by client reviews. The provided testimonials highlight recurring issues related to communication, billing practices, and the perceived efficiency of service delivery.

One client's review expresses frustration over being charged for answering questions despite being told to "contact them if I have any questions." The client states, "They want to charge me $190 for getting answers to those questions. So, in order to talk to somebody, I can’t call the person who hired them, but they’ll answer my questions for $190. Nowhere in the notification does it say that I have to pay to get questions answered..." This indicates a lack of transparency or clarity regarding their billing policy for communications. Furthermore, this client points out a delay in sending a notification, noting that a form dated March 21 was mailed on April 2 and received on April 16, resulting in a 21-day notice instead of a 30-day notice. The lack of signatures on the form also raised concerns for this client. The mention of unsigned names "John Ricci and Megan Meyerhoff" indicates that these individuals may be part of the firm's team, potentially paralegals or other support staff, and their roles in client communication or case management are brought into question.

A second, more extensive review details a negative experience with a Chapter 7 bankruptcy filing. This client highlights several critical issues:

  • Case Handling and Delays: The case "bounced around to three different paralegals before anyone even started work on my case in January 2025" despite an initial consultation in November 2024. This suggests internal disorganization and significant delays in initiating work after retainer payment.
  • Poor Communication: It "began taking weeks to receive responses back from the firm/emails in regards to documents needed and status updates." This indicates a systemic issue with responsiveness, leaving the client uninformed and frustrated.
  • Undisclosed Charges: The client received an "invoice for $420, which wasn’t communicated ahead of time," for an email response and a pre-filing document. This reinforces the concern about unexpected billing, similar to the first review.
  • Lack of Progress: Despite paying "close to $3000," the client felt the firm "literally did nothing except sift through documents and create an excel spreadsheet of debts," with most information initially provided by the client. This points to a perceived lack of substantive work for the fees charged.
  • Unresponsiveness Post-Inquiry: After emailing the paralegal about the charge and status update, the client "received no response and have not heard from anyone associated with my case in over a month." This illustrates a complete breakdown in communication when concerns were raised.

These reviews collectively highlight significant challenges in client communication, billing transparency, case management efficiency, and responsiveness that O'Flaherty Law appears to face. While law firms aim to feature client satisfaction as a key promotional point, these testimonials present a contrasting narrative that prospective clients would need to consider. The firm's ability to handle "expediently" and provide "quality" legal service, as might be implied by a "bit high" retainer, is directly challenged by the client's actual experience.

For promotional information, a law firm typically emphasizes its expertise, client focus, positive outcomes, and transparent processes. However, in the context of the provided reviews, any promotional claims by O'Flaherty Law would need to be viewed against these significant client concerns regarding billing, communication, and efficiency. Firms usually highlight accessibility and responsiveness as a key feature, which are directly contradicted by the experiences shared. If O'Flaherty Law engages in promotional activities, they would likely aim to present their broad range of services and commitment to client solutions, but the objective introduction must reflect the direct feedback from clients regarding service delivery.

In summary, O'Flaherty Law, situated in Naperville, IL, operates as a "Nearby Lawyers" service, offering legal assistance in areas such as bankruptcy and potentially other general practice areas. While the firm's physical location appears professional, client reviews raise substantial concerns regarding billing transparency, communication effectiveness, internal case management, and perceived value for fees paid. These accounts highlight issues such as unexpected charges for communication, significant delays in case initiation, poor responsiveness from staff, and a perceived lack of progress despite substantial payments. Prospective clients should carefully consider these points when evaluating O'Flaherty Law for their legal needs.
