Mountain Abstract appears to operate in the realm of real estate transactions, likely providing services related to title searches, title insurance, and facilitating the closing process. While not explicitly termed a "law firm" in its name, the mention of an "Attorney Jones" in one of the reviews suggests that legal professionals may be associated with or employed by this entity, particularly in the context of real estate law which often involves legal documentation and oversight.
It is crucial for local users considering Mountain Abstract for their real estate needs to be aware of the feedback shared by recent customers. The available reviews paint a concerning picture regarding their service quality and professionalism in handling property closings.
One customer shared a detailed and highly negative experience, stating, "*Beware of this office* I’ve never had such a disorganized closing on a property before this experience- and I’ve had a few to compare this to. No one takes responsibility for the poor communication. My agent was never given a response of a closing time to be present at the office to represent me, which snowballed into the buyer having keys to my property FOUR DAYS before I received a wire transfer. They changed their story about the wire transfer being submitted & was never able to provide tracking information; it was done, then it wasn’t done, & then they were going to do it. Excuses - “I was out of the office”, “I am not your closer”, and “the attorney isn’t in the office today”. Who was the person doing the closing paperwork? That info wasn’t provided to me either. Ansley & Attorney Jones were copied in multiple emails. No one made the situation right. The attorney took it upon himself to write up a large fee (though I didn’t hire him, the buyer did) and signed off on everything for me as my representative himself. No arrangement was made or fee discussed regarding this. No response or apology after multiple emails with this mess of an office. My requests and feedback were completely ignored, as was my agents. Disgusted that people like this are in business. There are good services in the area & this is not one of them!"
This review raises several serious concerns for potential clients:
- Disorganization: The customer explicitly describes the closing process as disorganized, which can lead to significant stress and potential financial repercussions.
- Poor Communication: The lack of communication regarding the closing time, even to the buyer's agent, indicates a breakdown in their operational processes. The inconsistent information about the wire transfer further highlights communication issues.
- Premature Transfer of Property: Allowing the buyer to have keys to the property four days before the seller received the funds is a significant deviation from standard real estate closing procedures and poses a considerable risk to the seller.
- Lack of Accountability: The passing of responsibility ("I was out of the office," "I am not your closer," "the attorney isn’t in the office today") suggests a lack of ownership and problem-solving within the office.
- Unauthorized Representation and Fees: The claim that the attorney wrote up a large fee (presumably for the seller, despite the buyer hiring him) without any prior arrangement or discussion is highly problematic and raises ethical questions. Signing off on documents as the seller's representative without their explicit consent is also a serious concern.
- Ignoring Feedback: The lack of response or apology to multiple emails detailing these issues demonstrates a disregard for customer service and a failure to address significant errors.
Another customer echoed similar issues with the financial aspect of the closing, stating, "They changed their story several times on when the money would be wired. It took 4 days to get my money wired after settlement and it only happened that fast due to me constantly calling and asking them to due their job. Becareful on who you use. My opinion, is there are many better companies to use and this one is the last one you would want to use. I've sold several properties and never ran into this issue on a wire, until I used this company."
This second review corroborates the concerns about the handling of funds and the timeline of the wire transfer. The fact that it took four days, and only occurred due to the seller's persistent follow-up, suggests inefficiency and a lack of proactive management of the financial aspects of the closing process. The customer's strong recommendation against using Mountain Abstract, based on their negative experience compared to multiple other property transactions, should be taken seriously by potential clients.
Given these two highly critical reviews, local users in Greentown, PA, who are in need of real estate closing services should exercise extreme caution when considering Mountain Abstract. The issues raised point to significant problems with communication, organization, financial handling, and potentially ethical conduct.
While the name "Mountain Abstract" might suggest a focus on title-related services, the involvement of an attorney ("Attorney Jones") indicates that they may also handle the legal aspects of real estate closings. However, the negative experiences reported suggest that their processes and client communication in this area are severely lacking.
For individuals seeking a smooth and reliable real estate closing experience in the Greentown area, it would be prudent to research and consider alternative title companies or real estate law firms with a more established positive reputation and verifiable positive client testimonials. When choosing a service for your real estate transaction, consider the following:
- Reputation and Reviews: Look for consistent positive feedback from multiple sources.
- Communication Practices: Ensure the company or firm has a clear and reliable communication process.
- Transparency in Fees: All fees should be clearly explained and agreed upon in advance.
- Professionalism and Organization: The closing process should be handled efficiently and professionally, with clear roles and responsibilities.
- Security of Funds: The handling of funds, particularly wire transfers, should be prompt, secure, and transparent.
The negative reviews for Mountain Abstract highlight a significant departure from these essential aspects of a professional real estate closing service. The lack of communication, the delay in fund transfer, the unauthorized actions by the attorney (as alleged), and the overall disorganization paint a picture of a service provider that has caused significant distress and potential financial risk to their clients.
As a platform for Nearby Lawyers and related services, our aim is to provide objective information to help you make informed decisions. In the case of Mountain Abstract, the available online feedback strongly suggests that local users should proceed with extreme caution and thoroughly explore alternative options for their real estate closing needs in Greentown, PA.
We recommend that individuals seeking real estate legal services or title and closing assistance in the area look for companies or law firms with a proven track record of positive client experiences and a reputation for professionalism, communication, and efficient handling of transactions. The issues described in the reviews for Mountain Abstract are serious and should not be taken lightly when entrusting such a significant financial transaction to a service provider.

They changed their story several times on when the money would be wired. It took 4 days to get my money wired after settlement and it only happened that fast due to me constantly calling and asking them to due their job. Becareful on who you use. My opinion, is there are many better companies to use and this one is the last one you would want to use. BUYER beware, if I could give 0 stars I would. This company does not do things correctly the 1st time and has resulted in many headaches for me. Settlement on house was 12/7/20 they decided they didn't want to pay off my mortgage in the manner my mortgage company required which resulted in my being charged an additional mortgage payment taken out of my bank account and additional interest as they did not pay it off on time. When I spoke with them on this they were VERY rude to me and acted like it was my fault my mortgage company wanted payment via wired funds or certified check rather than their "business check" check (which after all of this chaos w/ them totally understand why my mortgage company wouldn't feel comfortable with a business check). Today 4 months after my settlement I got the county tax bill, thankfully thought to contact the county recorder of deeds and was told they didn't even file the deed until Jan and on Jan 22 it was sent back to them with "many mistakes", and they have not rectified the situation to date. So I am considered in the county eyes responsible for the taxes on the property still. The county also indicated that I am not the only one who has had problems with them either. I let it go in Dec because I was over it and just wanted it settled but now I am angry and mystified how a company like this can stay in business. Hoping this helps someone some headaches and use a different company in advance.
Great experience from the start to finish. I wasn't around for the closing and they handled everything. Could not have gone smoother. Ansley was a life saver
Mountain Abstract made a critical error when I closed on my house with them. Turns out that the seller never paid the county taxes but Mountain Abstract never verified and had me pay my portion of the taxes to the seller. So not only was I out that money but was responsible for the full year tax. When I asked Mountain Abstract for the tax verification they obtained, I was told that their record keeper has the "worst record keeping habits" and it would be difficult to locate. It took numerous phone calls and emails to settle the issue. I had to send them my tax bill four separate times because they kept losing it. Mountain Abstract ended up eating the cost and paying the tax just days before I would have become delinquent on the tax. AVOID THIS TITLE COMPANY AT ALL COSTS. Unprofessional, unresponsive, and undeserving of their business license.
