Based on the available online reviews, experiences with Mason Griffin & Pierson, PC appear to vary. One review details a negative experience concerning estate matters and interactions with an attorney named Paul Bishop. According to this review, the client's brother contacted Mr. Bishop regarding their mother's estate and alleged theft by a sibling, following a referral from the lawyer who drafted the mother's will. The reviewer states that Mr. Bishop requested and received a retainer without scheduling an initial consultation meeting. Subsequently, the interactions were described as limited to two brief phone calls amidst court proceedings and several emails, one allegedly written while Mr. Bishop was in court for another client. A draft settlement proposal was created without direct discussion with the client's brother, which was not agreed upon. When the client's brother questioned the proposed settlement and requested Mr. Bishop to actively work on the case as expected, the review claims that Mr. Bishop became defensive and terminated the client relationship via email, without a phone call. Following a dispute regarding the lack of substantive work done, a full refund of the retainer was reportedly issued. The reviewer concludes by expressing a negative opinion of this particular experience with Mr. Bishop, suggesting that his approach of dictating the settlement without proper client consultation was unsatisfactory.
In contrast, another review presents a highly positive experience specifically with the Estate Planning Department of Mason Griffin & Pierson, PC. This reviewer describes an "outstanding experience from beginning to end" and specifically praises Valerie Howe, Esq., as "simply THE BEST," along with her administrator, Marguerite, who is also described as "amazing." The review highlights the creation of a comprehensive and well-organized set of estate planning documents, supported by excellent strategy. The final presentation by Marguerite is lauded for its organization and professionalism. This client highly recommends the firm for estate planning services, indicating a very positive experience within this particular department.
Considering these two contrasting reviews, it is important for potential clients to recognize that experiences can differ based on the specific attorney and the department within the firm they are working with. While one review raises concerns about communication and client representation in an estate matter handled by Mr. Bishop, the other strongly praises the Estate Planning Department, particularly Valerie Howe and Marguerite, for their expertise and professionalism.
The services offered by Mason Griffin & Pierson, PC likely encompass various legal areas to serve the needs of their clientele in Princeton and the surrounding region. Based on the reviews, a significant area of their practice includes estate planning. This typically involves the drafting of essential legal documents such as wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and healthcare directives. Estate planning aims to ensure that an individual's assets are distributed according to their wishes upon their passing and to provide for their well-being in the event of incapacity.
Given the negative review concerning an estate matter involving alleged theft by a sibling, it can be inferred that the firm may also handle probate and estate administration, which involves the legal process of managing and distributing a deceased person's estate. Furthermore, the mention of settlement proposals suggests potential involvement in estate litigation or dispute resolution.
The positive review specifically highlights the "Estate Planning Dept," indicating a specialized focus and expertise in this area. The mention of "excellent strategy" suggests that the firm provides comprehensive advice tailored to individual client needs, going beyond simply drafting documents. The praise for the organized and professional final presentation further implies a commitment to thoroughness and client understanding in the estate planning process.
Features of Mason Griffin & Pierson, PC, as perceived through the reviews, present a mixed picture. The negative review suggests potential issues with communication, client consultation, and a perceived lack of diligent effort in one specific case. On the other hand, the positive review emphasizes the firm's outstanding experience, the expertise of Valerie Howe, and the exceptional professionalism and organization of the Estate Planning Department. This suggests that the firm may have strong capabilities in certain areas, such as estate planning, while experiences in other areas or with different attorneys may vary.
In terms of promotional information, the positive review for the Estate Planning Department serves as a strong endorsement for their services. The phrases "simply THE BEST," "amazing," "most comprehensive organized set of estate planning documents," and "excellent firm to do business with" are powerful testimonials that could attract clients seeking estate planning services. This review implicitly promotes the expertise, thoroughness, and client satisfaction within that specific department.
However, the negative review acts as a cautionary note, highlighting potential concerns regarding communication and client service in at least one instance. While it is crucial to consider all feedback objectively, this review may deter potential clients who prioritize proactive communication and collaborative attorney-client relationships.
For local users in Princeton seeking legal assistance, particularly in estate planning, Mason Griffin & Pierson, PC's Estate Planning Department, as described by the positive reviewer, appears to be a strong contender. The praise for Valerie Howe and her team suggests a high level of expertise and professionalism in this specific area of law. However, potential clients may want to inquire specifically about the attorneys and departments they will be working with to ensure a comfortable and effective working relationship, especially in light of the contrasting negative experience shared by another reviewer.
In conclusion, Mason Griffin & Pierson, PC in Princeton, NJ, offers legal services that include estate planning, among other potential areas. While one client reported a negative experience with a specific attorney regarding an estate matter, another client had an outstanding experience with the Estate Planning Department, praising the expertise of Valerie Howe and the professionalism of the team. My brother contacted Paul Bishop concerning our mother's estate and theft by a sibling. The lawyer that did my mother's will referred him and sent Mr. Bishop information. Mr. Bishop did not even set up a consultation meeting and instead contacted my brother and asked for a retainer which my brother paid. My brother thought that once Mr. Bishop got his retainer he would schedule a meeting. WRONG. All Mr. Bishop did was have 2 quick phone calls between court and several emails, one of which he wrote while in court representing another client. Without even talking to my brother he wrote a draft of a settlement proposal letter which we didn't agree with. When we questioned Mr. Bishop and told him we wanted a different settlement and basically he needed to do the job he was hired to do, he got all huffy and cancelled my brother as a client in a email without even the courtesy of a phone call. He said he would see how many hours he had in the case and send a bill. When my brother pushed back and told Mr. Bishop that he did nothing with the case in the month''s time he was retained and Mr. Bishop ended up giving him a full refund. I don't think this is the kind of lawyer that anyone wants to hire. He just wanted to dictate what our settlement would be and never even discussed it with my brother. A lawyer is supposed to be working for you and doing what you want them to do, not the other way around.
