Reviews

  • I wouldn't suggest this firm to the common folk, especially Mr. Lawrence. I requested a brief consult with him over my employment situation as I felt I had a case. However, shortly after the call began, Mr. Lawrence indicated he "researched" my position to see what I made for a salary or at least a range. Based on this information he stated, " You are too poor to afford me". I felt this was inappropriate and unprofessional. While I understand a firm from Chicago is always looking for top earners to pad their wallets with or high-profile cases, but at the same time there are others who still need help from time to time. I have spent my entire life in the service of others and this is the thanks I get. Little does he know that our net worth would have made us a valuable client because we have been savvy over the years, but he was quick to judge. He did provide some referrals, however I wasn't interested in contacting anyone he might suggest. It was a very brief and disappointing experience.
  • A responsive, effective and highly professional law firm oriented towards middle market business clients. My wife and I have retained the firm for many years and they handled the sale of our business several years ago with consummate skill. Highly recommended.

Services Offered:

Based on the information available and the general nature of law firms catering to "middle market business clients," it is reasonable to infer that Levin Ginsburg likely offers a range of legal services pertinent to businesses. These services typically include:

  • Corporate Law: Assisting businesses with their formation, governance, mergers and acquisitions, contract drafting and review, and other corporate matters.

One positive review specifically mentions the firm's expertise in handling the sale of a business, indicating a strong capability in transactional law for middle-market clients. This suggests that Levin Ginsburg possesses the skills and experience necessary to navigate complex business transactions effectively.

The positive feedback highlights several key features and potential strengths of Levin Ginsburg:

  • Consummate Skill in Business Transactions: Their handling of the business sale with "consummate skill" suggests a high level of expertise and attention to detail in complex legal matters.

Areas for Consideration:

It is important to also consider the negative feedback received. One reviewer shared a significantly different experience, alleging unprofessional behavior during an initial consultation with Mr. Lawrence. The core of the complaint revolves around the perception that the lawyer based his decision to not take the case solely on the individual's perceived financial status, deeming them "too poor to afford" his services. The reviewer felt this was judgmental and inappropriate, especially given their background in public service and their assessment of their own net worth.

This review raises concerns about:

  • Initial Client Interactions: The experience described suggests a potentially negative first impression and a lack of empathy or understanding in the initial consultation process.
  • Client Selection Criteria: Basing the decision to offer services solely on immediate perceived financial capacity, without a full understanding of the client's overall situation, could be seen as exclusionary and unprofessional.
  • Communication Style: The directness of the statement, "You are too poor to afford me," as reported by the reviewer, lacks sensitivity and could damage the firm's reputation among potential clients.

It is crucial to acknowledge that this is a single negative review and may not be representative of the firm's overall practices. However, it is a data point that potential clients should be aware of when making their decision. It highlights the importance of clear and respectful communication, especially during initial consultations.

Promotional Information and Recommendations:

However, potential clients should also be mindful of the negative feedback regarding the initial consultation experience. The positive testimonial supports this claim, highlighting their skills in handling significant business transactions and fostering long-term client relationships. Their Chicago Loop location provides accessibility for businesses in the area.
