As a listed resource on the "Nearby Lawyers" platform, this introduction aims to provide an objective overview of the firm based on available client reviews, highlighting their environment, potential services, and reported features.

The physical address of Kathrin S. Mautino, APLC, places it within a prominent downtown San Diego building, likely indicating a professional and accessible office environment for clients. Situated on West C Street, this location is central and easily reachable for residents and those working in the area. The suite number, STE 140, suggests a specific office space within a larger commercial building, typical for law firms operating in urban centers. While specific details about the office's ambiance and facilities are not mentioned in the reviews, the downtown location generally implies a setting conducive to legal consultations and casework.

The firm's name, Kathrin S. Mautino, APLC (A Professional Law Corporation), indicates that it is a legal practice operating under the professional corporation structure in California, with Kathrin S. Mautino as the principal attorney. This structure often signifies a commitment to providing professional legal services within a regulated framework. The focus of the practice, based on the positive client review, appears to be primarily in immigration law, specifically mentioned in the context of obtaining a Green Card through the National Interest Waiver (NIW) process.

Within the "Nearby Lawyers" category, Kathrin S. Mautino, APLC, seems to specialize in immigration law. The positive review explicitly details a successful experience with an NIW Green Card application, a complex area of immigration law that requires demonstrating exceptional ability and that the individual's work is in the national interest of the United States. The reviewer highlights the firm's strategic approach, noting that Kathrin Mautino takes only cases she believes have a strong chance of success and provides an initial assessment of the case's viability. This suggests a selective and potentially results-oriented approach to case selection within their immigration practice.

The client reviews offer contrasting perspectives on the features and environment of Kathrin S. Mautino, APLC. The positive review emphasizes:

  • Strategic Case Assessment: Kathrin Mautino reportedly provides an upfront evaluation of the case's potential for success.
  • Collaborative Work Style: The client described a significant level of collaboration with Kathrin Mautino throughout the process.
  • Focus on Client Success: The positive outcome of the Green Card approval within a relatively short timeframe (1.5 years) suggests a commitment to achieving favorable results for clients.
  • Client Care: The reviewer explicitly states, "they really care about their clients" and highly recommends the firm.

However, the negative review highlights several concerns:

  • Reliance on Notes: The reviewer noted that discussions not documented in Kathrin Mautino's notes were seemingly disregarded.
  • Communication Charges: A fee of $150 was reportedly charged for each client outreach after the contract was signed.
  • Paralegal Inaccessibility: The paralegal team was described as not easily reachable.
  • Timeline Discrepancies: The initial timeline for filing paperwork was significantly delayed, and ultimately, the firm informed the client they could not proceed with their case after a considerable waiting period.
  • Valuing Client Time: The reviewer expressed disappointment regarding the perceived lack of value placed on client time, especially in time-sensitive situations.

These contrasting reviews paint a complex picture. While one client experienced a life-changingly positive outcome, attributing it to Kathrin Mautino's expertise and care, another reported significant issues with communication, timelines, and the overall handling of their case. It is important for potential clients to consider both perspectives when evaluating this law firm.

Currently, there is no explicit promotional information available for Kathrin S. Mautino, APLC, in the provided data. Law firms often promote their services through initial consultations, highlighting specific areas of expertise, or showcasing successful case outcomes. While the positive review serves as an implicit endorsement of their immigration law services, the negative review suggests potential areas where improvements could be needed in client communication and case management. Potential clients seeking immigration assistance should inquire about the firm's consultation process, their specific expertise in the relevant immigration category, their communication protocols, and their fee structure.

For local users in San Diego seeking immigration legal services through the "Nearby Lawyers" platform, Kathrin S. Mautino, APLC, located downtown, offers specific expertise in immigration law, as evidenced by the successful NIW case. However, the reported issues with communication, reliance on notes, and timeline management from another client should prompt potential clients to conduct thorough due diligence. It is recommended that individuals considering this firm take the following steps:

It was a life changing experience for me to work with Kathrin and her colleagues. No playing around- Kathrin takes only cases that she thinks might have chances to win. She will tell you in the beginning if your case is worth their time. It was a lot of collaborative work with Kathrin, I literally reinvented myself during this process. As a result I have received my GC (NIW) in 1.5 years after we submitted the case, and now I manage my own profitable company. I'm super grateful for everything they did for me, they really care about their clients. Highly recommend them.

My experience wasn’t as I expected. I still don’t doubt her expertise. During my small journey with her Three points that stick out during this experience was :- 1. Her “Notes” are her bible. So if she missed out in putting anything in her notes, consider it was never discussed. We did point out 2-3 point which was discussed already but it was never acknowledge because its not calling out in her notes. 2. After we have signed contract, we have to end up paying her 150$ for every-time we try to reach out to her. Their paralegal team were not very easily reachable too. I understand Kathrin’s time is very important. But sometimes, hearing something from paralegal team also helps to keep patience and calm during urgent situations that someone is going through. 3. Time frame :- initial discussed timeline to apply with paperwork to USCIS was 3 weeks. It took them 3 weeks to realize they don’t have clear direction for the first step. And it took them 1 and half month to let us know they can’t proceed with our process. That was pretty disappointing since it shows how much she values clients time especially in cases where something is at stake (like my wife’s job). Kathrin does have strong background and that’s why we reached her out without any reference from anyone. I am pretty sure she is a great lawyer too. But it was unfortunate that it didn’t work out in our case.
