Features and Considerations (Based on Reviews):
The provided reviews offer contrasting perspectives on the firm's features and approach:
- Initial Consultation Experience: One reviewer noted feeling confident and reassured during the initial consultation with John Paul, highlighting his apparent compassion and understanding. This suggests that the firm may make a positive first impression.
- Billing Practices: A significant concern raised in one review is the feeling of being "nickel-and-dimed" for every minute of the firm's time, including charges for actions not explicitly authorized. This suggests a potentially high-cost approach with a need for clear communication and pre-approval of billable activities.
- Communication and Guidance: The negative review indicates a lack of guidance and support, particularly for a client new to working with lawyers, leading to feelings of being taken advantage of. This highlights the importance of clear, proactive communication and client education.
- Transparency and Straightforwardness: The positive review praises John Paul for being straightforward and transparent about his process, fulfilling his commitments and demonstrating compassion and professionalism. This suggests that the experience may vary depending on the specific attorney and case.
- Advocacy and Sensitivity: Sarah Brady is commended for her understanding and sensitivity towards a client's focus on child custody during mediation. She is also credited with advocating for other important areas that the client later appreciated, indicating thorough and detailed guidance.
- Experience and Expertise: The positive review expresses a belief in the unparalleled level of experience and expertise of both Sarah and John Paul, fostering a sense of trust and confidence in their representation.
- Client-Focused Approach (Positive Account): The positive review emphasizes feeling like the attorneys had the client's best interests in mind and went above and beyond their duties, suggesting a client-centered approach in some instances.
- Potential for High Costs and Delays (Negative Account): The negative review highlights the potential for significant legal fees and prolonged delays, even in seemingly uncomplicated cases, leading to a worse outcome for the client.

- Seek Clarity on Legal Strategy and Progress: Actively engage with your legal team to understand the strategy being employed and the progress being made on your case. Do not hesitate to ask questions and seek clarification.

Disappointing Experience – Would Not Recommend Working with John Paul and his team at JMD Law was, unfortunately, one of the most disheartening experiences I’ve ever had. I hired them with the sole purpose of establishing a child custody and child support agreement after separating from my ex, but after six months and over $12,000 spent in legal fees, I was left with absolutely nothing to show for it. At the initial consultation, I felt confident and reassured. John Paul seemed compassionate, understanding, and committed to helping me. I was emotional during our first meeting, feeling like I had found someone who truly had my back. That sense of trust led me to go ahead and pay their substantial retainer upfront and continue to trust them throughout the engagement. Sadly, that trust was completely misplaced. Throughout the process, I felt nickel-and-dimed for every single minute of their time, including actions I didn’t authorize or approve in advance. Despite being upfront about my limited budget and financial struggles, they continued billing for unnecessary items without clear communication. I was clear this was my first time working with lawyers, and rather than guiding or supporting me, I feel like I was completely taken advantage of. It’s now over a year since I first hired them, and I’m still without a custody agreement or child support agreement—the only two things I hired them to accomplish. Oh also, it is important to note that my case was not at all complicated: my ex and I were never married, shared no assets, and didn’t have any legal entanglements that would justify such an exorbitant bill or prolonged delays. After working with John Paul and his team, I walked away in an even worse position than when I hired them. It was devastating to feel like I had wasted so much money and time with a team that didn’t have my best interests in mind. I am usually not one to spend time leaving "negative" reviews like this. However, I'm doing it because it's the right thing to do. If this helps even just one person protect themselves from what I went through, it would be worth it.
Although the circumstances that brought me to JMD were unexpected and extremely painful, working with Sarah Brady and John Paul Tsahakis helped to make a difficult situation a lot easier for me. John Paul was always straightforward and transparent about his process. He did everything that he said that he would do and then some. He handled my case with extreme compassion and professionalism. During mediation, I was singularly focused on child custody and Sarah was very understanding and sensitive to this. Not only did she advocate for the custody outcomes that we wanted, but also made sure to advocate for other areas that were completely unimportant to me at the time (but I have since grown extremely grateful to her for securing!) If it were not for her thorough and detailed guidance, I would be in a far worse situation today! To say that both Sarah and John Paul went above and beyond their duties as lawyers is an understatement. I always felt like they had my best interests in mind and that their level of experience and expertise was unparalleled. There is no one else that I would want advocating for me or my children. I will always be extremely grateful to Sarah and John Paul for helping to give me hope during some of the darkest days of my life.
Referral for John Paul Tsahakis | JMD Law Walking through the journey of divorce was by far the most emotional, difficult and complex experience of my life. From the beginning, I was in unknown territory, felt scared and unsure of the process and simply wanted to make my way through to the other side as quickly as possible. I will forever be grateful that I was referred to John Paul Tsahakis to help me get there. John Paul spent time getting to know me and my situation. From our first call, I appreciated his strategic vision to see what I could not see, and his collaborative nature to explore the best way to reach my goals for my family. He and his team were hard-working, compassionate, communicative, always made me feel like we were a team and that I was not alone. In the end, I can honestly say that I don’t think our matter could have been settled any better for both parties. Hiring John Paul will mean having the best in your corner. A man who truly values family and who will help you protect yours.
Divorce is one of the most trying experiences, both emotionally and physically. No one can prepare you for it. When I found myself in the unfortunate position of separation, I reached out to a family friend/attorney in Hickory who recommended John Paul Tsahakis. This family friend had worked with John Paul through the years and had complete confidence that he was the attorney for me. Was he ever right! John Paul talked me off of so many emotional cliffs, walked me through the process, always explaining things so I could understand what was ahead, and even suggesting things I could do to help save some money along the way. Divorce isn't cheap, but you also get what you pay for as the saying goes. In the end, John Paul helped me solidify an agreement that set me on my feet towards a new future. I have referred John Paul to people I cross paths with going through the same unfortunate circumstances. That to me sums up how satisfied I was with using him through this process. Highly recommend John Paul Tsahakis!
Lauren Leader is an exceptional attorney and advocate. She is top-notch, but even more importantly for an attorney practicing family law, she genuinely cares about her clients and their families. She is tough when needed, but does so with grace. Lauren and Shanley were incredibly professional, prompt in their communication and compassionate throughout my lengthy divorce proceedings. I will forever be grateful for the way Lauren professionally managed to obtain the end result we were all hoping for. I can truly recommend her without hesitation. And if you have a loved one needing counsel, realize there is hope. Contact Lauren Leader. She will fight for you to the end. I’ll always refer the JMD team to anyone who is looking for an educated, straightforward and honest family law group.
