Jim O'Connor Introduce
Welcome to Nearby Lawyers, your local platform for connecting with legal professionals in your community. Today, we introduce you to Jim O'Connor, an attorney and mediator with an office located at 3939 NE Hancock St #309, Portland, OR 97212, USA. This address is situated in the Northeast quadrant of Portland, within a multi-tenant professional building. The suite number indicates a dedicated office space where clients can likely expect a professional and private environment for consultations regarding family law matters. While specific details about the office's ambiance are not extensively available online, the location suggests accessibility for residents of Northeast Portland and surrounding areas.
Based on the available customer reviews, Jim O'Connor's legal practice appears to focus primarily on family law, with a particular emphasis on constructive and respectful resolution of family law issues through mediation and Collaborative Law. However, the reviews present significantly contrasting experiences, which potential clients should carefully consider.
One reviewer shared a deeply negative experience regarding a divorce case handled by Jim O'Connor. This client alleged a critical lack of follow-up after the General Judgment was sent to their ex-spouse for signing, which purportedly resulted in the divorce never being finalized. The client stated that they signed their part and assumed everything was completed, only to discover months later that their ex-spouse had not signed the document. This failure to ensure the finalization of the divorce allegedly left the client in a "painful and complicated scenario," requiring them to hire other lawyers to complete the process. The reviewer expressed strong dissatisfaction, suggesting that Jim O'Connor had "totally 'checked out' from his work" and advised others to "Avoid at all costs." This review raises serious concerns about diligence and follow-through in his handling of at least one divorce case.
In stark contrast, another reviewer offers a highly positive assessment of Jim O'Connor, describing him as a "thoughtful, caring attorney and mediator" who dedicates his practice to the "constructive and respectful resolution of family law issues." This reviewer highlights Mr. O'Connor's extensive experience, combined with an "interest-based approach" aimed at helping clients achieve outcomes that meet their needs and work well for the entire family. They specifically recommend Jim O'Connor for both mediation and Collaborative Law cases, indicating expertise and a positive approach in these alternative dispute resolution methods within family law.
The significant divergence between these two reviews suggests that while Jim O'Connor may have a positive reputation for his approach to mediation and Collaborative Law, there may be inconsistencies or issues in his handling of traditional litigation-based divorce cases. It is also possible that the negative review represents an isolated incident or a misunderstanding, but its severity warrants careful consideration.
Based on the positive review, key features of Jim O'Connor's practice in mediation and Collaborative Law appear to include thoughtfulness, care, a focus on constructive and respectful resolution, extensive experience in family law, and an interest-based approach to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes. Mediation involves facilitating discussions between parties to reach a settlement, while Collaborative Law is a process where both parties and their attorneys commit to resolving issues outside of court. His recommendation for these methods suggests a preference for non-adversarial approaches to family law disputes.
The negative review, however, highlights potential issues with follow-through, diligence in finalizing legal documents, and overall case management in at least one instance of a divorce proceeding. This raises concerns about the consistency and reliability of his services across all types of family law cases.
Promotional information is not explicitly stated in either review. The positive review serves as a strong endorsement for his mediation and Collaborative Law services, effectively promoting his expertise in these areas. The negative review, conversely, serves as a strong caution against his services, at least in the context of traditional divorce litigation.
For local users in Portland, OR, seeking assistance with family law matters, Jim O'Connor's practice presents a mixed picture based on the available reviews. If you are interested in mediation or Collaborative Law as a means of resolving family disputes, the positive review suggests that his thoughtful, caring, and experienced approach may be beneficial. However, if your case is likely to involve traditional divorce litigation, the negative review regarding a lack of follow-through and significant complications should give you pause and warrant further investigation. It would be advisable to inquire specifically about his experience and processes in the type of family law case you are facing and perhaps seek additional references or reviews to gain a more comprehensive understanding of his overall practice.
In conclusion, Jim O'Connor, located in Northeast Portland, OR, offers legal services in family law, with a noted focus on mediation and Collaborative Law, where he is described as thoughtful, caring, and experienced. However, a significant negative review regarding a divorce case raises concerns about diligence and case management in traditional litigation. Local users should carefully weigh these contrasting perspectives and conduct thorough due diligence to determine if Jim O'Connor's services align with their specific family law needs.

Jim never followed up with my ex after he sent out the General Judgment to be signed and delivered to the courts, which resulted in my divorce never happening. I signed and assumed everything was sealed and delivered. It wasn't until many months later that my ex said she never signed. I am now dealing with lawyers to finalize my divorce. Jim left me in one of the most painful and complicated scenarios I have ever had to navigate in my life. He has totally 'checked out' from his work and is obviously cruising untill he fully retires. Avoid at all costs.
Jim is a thoughtful, caring attorney and mediator who dedicates his practice to the constructive and respectful resolution of family law issues. Jim combines many years of experience with an interest-based approach to help clients achieve an outcome that meets their interests and works well for the entire family. I highly recommend Jim for both mediation and Collaborative law cases.
Jim is a dedicated and compassionate attorney who thrives on helping people with their problems. He is professional, knowledgeable and kind. He seeks to make a difficult time in people's lives understandable and workable by sharing his authentic care, beyond what is anticipated of an attorney.
Jim mediated my divorce last year. There were certainly some challenging moments but Jim was extremely skilled at helping us find common ground. I absolutely would recommend Jim to anyone in a similar situation.
I’m a fellow lawyer who knows Jim. He has been a mentor to me, who has provided exceptional strategic and practical suggestions regarding how best to handle mediation and collaborative divorce. Jim is unquestionably a leading "out-of-court" divorce professional! His skills and knowledge are among the best you are going to find.
