J. Kevin Tharpe, P.C. Introduce

Welcome to our platform for Nearby Lawyers, your local resource for finding legal assistance. If you are a resident of Gainesville, Georgia, or the surrounding areas within Hall County, and are seeking legal services related to estate planning, J. Kevin Tharpe, P.C. is located at 405 Broad St SE, Gainesville, GA 30501, USA. The available customer reviews present a mixed picture of the firm, with one client highlighting positive experiences in estate planning and interactions within the senior care industry, while another expresses significant dissatisfaction with the attorney’s demeanor and communication practices.

One positive review recounts a long-standing professional relationship with Attorney Kevin Tharpe, initiated 14 years prior through work in the senior care industry. The reviewer notes that Mr. Tharpe’s "knowledge and expertise" shared with a senior resource group were "incredibly helpful." This positive initial impression led the reviewer to engage Mr. Tharpe for estate planning services for multiple family members. This suggests that J. Kevin Tharpe, P.C. has experience in providing estate planning services and has established a reputation for knowledge and expertise within the senior care community in the Gainesville area.

The positive reviewer also emphasizes Mr. Tharpe’s caring attitude towards clients, stating that he "truly cares about clients and takes special care and time to explaining the details for specific needs." This indicates a client-focused approach, where Mr. Tharpe is willing to invest time in ensuring that clients understand the intricacies of their estate plans. Furthermore, the reviewer mentions ongoing helpfulness with recent needs and questions, suggesting a commitment to long-term client support. Based on this review, J. Kevin Tharpe, P.C. is recommended for estate planning needs, particularly for those in or connected to the senior community who value a knowledgeable and caring attorney.

However, a significantly contrasting review raises serious concerns about the professionalism and communication practices of J. Kevin Tharpe. This reviewer questions the authenticity of positive reviews and describes Attorney Tharpe as "rude and condescending," suggesting a potentially negative environment or interaction style. This individual also relays secondhand accounts from other former clients who allegedly shared similar negative experiences with the attorney’s demeanor.

The negative review details a specific and troubling situation involving the reviewer’s mother-in-law, who hired Mr. Tharpe to create a Revocable Trust. According to the review, the mother-in-law never received copies of the paperwork, leading to uncertainty about whether a Trust or a Will was actually created. This lack of documentation is a significant issue, especially for an elderly client with potential memory issues who may not fully understand the legal documents prepared for her. The failure to provide essential paperwork undermines transparency and client confidence.

The reviewer recounts multiple attempts over three months to contact the office to schedule an appointment for the mother-in-law to obtain copies of her legal documents, with no response to phone calls. This lack of follow-up and communication is a serious concern for potential clients who expect timely and responsive service from their legal counsel.

The situation escalated when the reviewer sent an email requesting a return call to schedule an appointment. The response from Kevin Tharpe, as quoted in the review, is described as "rude." In his email, Mr. Tharpe stated that there had been no response because the reviewer was not the client and had not indicated their relationship to the client. He explicitly instructed the reviewer not to contact the office again, citing a lack of authorization to communicate with a non-client or provide them with documents.

The reviewer’s follow-up email clarified their relationship to the client (mother-in-law), mentioned her name and date of birth (allegedly provided in voicemails), and explained her elderly status and health issues, as well as the existence of a Power of Attorney. The repeated attempts to simply schedule an appointment for the client to receive her own documents highlight a significant breakdown in client service and communication.

Despite this follow-up, Mr. Tharpe’s subsequent communication, as quoted in the review, continued to be perceived as rude. While he did eventually speak with the mother-in-law, he relayed that she did not want to make an appointment or authorize communication with the reviewer. This outcome, while respecting the client’s stated wishes, does not address the initial failure to respond to repeated inquiries aimed at facilitating the client’s access to her own legal documents.

The reviewer’s final comments emphasize the importance of clear communication from the outset. They suggest that a simple initial response stating the need for the client to contact the office directly would have prevented months of frustration and multiple unanswered calls. The reviewer concludes with a strong negative recommendation, citing the poor communication and perceived rudeness as reasons to avoid J. Kevin Tharpe, P.C.

The address of J. Kevin Tharpe, P.C. on Broad St SE in Gainesville indicates a physical office location within the community, which could be convenient for local residents seeking estate planning services. However, the conflicting reviews regarding the firm’s client interaction and communication practices should prompt potential clients to exercise caution and seek further information before engaging their services.

The phone number provided, (866) 253-6994, is a toll-free number, which might suggest a broader service area beyond Gainesville or a centralized intake system. Local users should be mindful of this when considering the firm’s local focus and accessibility.

In conclusion, J. Kevin Tharpe, P.C. in Gainesville, GA, offers estate planning services and has received a positive review highlighting knowledge, expertise in senior care, a caring attitude, and thorough explanations. However, a detailed negative review raises serious concerns about rudeness, condescending behavior, and a lack of responsiveness and communication, particularly regarding the provision of essential legal documents to a client. Potential local users should carefully weigh these contrasting experiences and consider conducting further due diligence, such as seeking additional references or a detailed initial consultation, to determine if this firm meets their individual needs and expectations for professionalism and client service in estate planning matters.

I met Attorney Kevin Tharpe 14 years ago while working in the senior care industry. His knowledge and expertise he shared when he spoke with our senior resource group was incredibly helpful so that when multiple family members needed estate planning services I knew who to call. He truly cares about clients and takes special care and time to explaining the details for specific needs. He has been very helpful recently with needs and questions that arose. We are thankful for all the assistance provided and highly recommend him for your estate planning needs.

I'm not sure who all these people are that left this attorney 5 star reviews. Evidently they are fake accounts. This attorney is rude and condescending and I would bet the rest of his staff are too. Honestly I have had other former clients tell me the same things about this attorney. My mother-in-law hired him to create a Revocable Trust (that's what we hope it is) and she never got copies of the paperwork. Honestly we have no idea if it's a Trust or a Will that he created for her as she is not knowledgeable on the legal jargon and is having some memory issues. We are hoping it is all setup correctly but we have no way of knowing because this office never provided her with any documents. I have called three times over the last three months to get someone to return a call just to setup an appointment for my mother-in-law to get copies of the paperwork and NO ONE has returned a call. Today, it came to a head. I found two email addresses on the website and after sending a pressuring email asking that they contact me back to get an appointment setup for my mother-in-law. Kevin Tharpe sends a rude email back with his words "Until today, you have not received aa response from us because you are not our client (in fact your latest e-mail does not even indicate who your mother in law is). We are unable to respond to any voicemails or e-mails from anyone who is not our client – regardless of their connection to our client. We have not been authorized us to speak with you nor provide copies of any documents to you. Please do not contact this office again. Kevin Tharpe I responded with the words "My mother-in-law is (insert her name) and I have given her name on every voicemail. I left a voicemail this morning with her name and DOB. She is elderly and has not been in good health of the over the last few months and we do have a Power of Attorney for her. All we want to do is get an appointment setup for her. She will be the person to come to the appointment to get copies of the Trust that your office did for her. This is the only reason I’m contacting you. Why can you not at least call us back to make the appointment? If you need to call her back then do so. (inserted her name & phone) After sending him this email he did finally call her. And according to my husband the call didn't go very well. She's very high strung and we didn't give her a warning he may call. So she went off on my husband fussing about she doesn't need anything. She's a combative & independent person anyway. And she's does not understand what the purpose is to have a copy of the paperwork. Kevin Tharpe replied back to my email today and his words "I have spoken with (insert her name) and she does not want to make an appointment with me to get copies of any of her documents to you or anyone else and she does not authorize me to communicate with you. Kevin Tharpe" Again, Rude email to me. I responded in turn "That’s fine. At least you called someone back. You didn’t have to be a rude person when doing so either. I have only left 3 voicemails over the last 3 months. If someone had responded to my first voicemail none of this would have had to happen. You can bet we won’t be referring you to any one we know. " Point being someone from the office should have contacted me after my first voicemail in April and simply said "We can't talk with you to make your mother-in-law appointments and that she will have to contact us herself" Then all would have been understood. I wouldn't have called two more times over the last 3 months to try to make and appointment for her. Kevin Tharpe's office needs to be more understanding of the fact that there are a lot of older people in this world that someone does have to make appointments for them and make sure the older person follows through with those appointments and my mother-in-law is one of them. So even though I'm not a client (you missed the opportunity to have me become a client) you should have just returned my call to tell me this. I would stay away from this one. Nothing good has been said about him.

I have known Kevin and his office personnel for 10 years. When I decided to get my own estate planning I called on him. I was not disappointed. They are very professional and informed. My husband and daughter attended the meeting so as a family we could get all of our questions answered. I feel confident that when it is needed, he snd his staff will be there for me and my family to help us through the process. I highly recommend J. Kevin Thorpe, P.C.

Outstanding Professional Advice from Kevin Tharpe! My wife and I used Kevin for our own personal estate and trust planning. We were so pleased that we recommend him to our business friends, who also used Kevin for their business and personal estate planning. They also were extremely pleased. Now our adult children are using Kevin. He always explains the options to us, assumes nothing, and educate us first before decisions are made. The finest experience I've ever had with estate planning, elder care, trusts, and asset protection.

Kevin took the time to not only answer our questions, but to make sure that we understood his answers. He offered counsel in such a way that felt like guidance by a trusted friend. Kevin listened with empathy and did not rush through our time. He was able to relate to our circumstance and offer counsel accordingly; he helped us to understand the difference between and need for a Will and Trust. It is evident that Kevin's knowledge and integrity can be trusted, and I highly recommend his office.
