My advice is to go somewhere else... My "attorney" after three months couldn't remember my name in an email. Maybe due to a large workload I don't know. The firm's name should be "Divorce lawyers for them". Real good at building up your billable hours. You'll get a much faster response if you're below your Trust balance threshold than an inquiry. Find another firm and save yourself some money and get actual results. I received great guidance in no time somewhere else without the same high costs. Just my opinion, good luck in your battle, I wish you the best.
I hired John Alarcon to represent me, and honestly, I’ve never worked with a more incompetent attorney. I spent around $11,000 and received little to no communication from him. He never took the time to explain the details of my case or work with me on it. At our first hearing, he promised we’d fight, but when the time came, I had to take the initiative by bringing in witnesses. John ended up folding and convinced me that giving the other side exactly what they wanted would be the best approach. In the end, after all the money I spent, the result was only a $400 biweekly, 2-hour supervised visitation with my kids and a drug test. I consulted with several other attorneys, and they all agreed that John was not worth what I paid. After three consultations, I found a new lawyer. I strongly recommend avoiding John Alarcon.
I highly recommend attorney Brandon Riffel of Goldberg Jones-Divorce for Men. I was not happy with my previous attorney’s progression during the first 9 months of my child custody case. I decided to contact Goldberg Jones-Divorce for Men and setup a consultation with Colin Amos. Colin Amos pointed out the mistakes that my attorney and I had made that got me the outcome I received at the time and explained the next steps that I needed to take immediately before it got worse. Colin Amos spoke very highly of Brandon Riffel and assigned him to my case. I went from being allowed one 3 hour supervised visit a week with my 3 kids, at my expense, to getting joint custody with a majority of the parenting time. I understand that all cases are different, but Brandon Riffel made all this happen in a 3 ½ month span. My coworkers, family and friends could not believe the complete 180 my child custody case went right after retaining Brandon Riffel. I am very grateful that Brandon Riffel was assigned to my case.
I highly recommend Attorney Phillip Jones of Goldberg Jones-Divorce for Men! I had a highly contentious, long, ugly custody battle and the first attorney that I hired had to get off my case because he said it was just getting too complicated for him. Without going into detail, I was distraught and losing hope to say the least. I contacted Goldberg Jones-Divorce for Men and was assigned Attorney Phillip Jones. Going with Goldberg Jones was the best decision I ever made! Phillip was very knowledgeable of family law, father's rights and knows how to get positive results in the courtroom. Phillip worked hard to help me get custody of my son back and for that I can't thank him enough. Phillip was always available to answer my questions and concerns. Having an attorney who understands the intricacies of family law and advocates fiercely can truly make a difference. I wish I would have hired Phillip in the very beginning! I would also like to say how friendly and helpful the front desk staff is.
Goldberg Jones in Portland is a complete disappointment. They are just another chain, much like McDonald's, and do not represent the interests of men in need of legal help. Their commercials on the radio are misleading. If you want to hire a used car salesman who doesn’t care about your case, this is the place for you. If you want to waste time and money while having no idea what’s happening with your case, then this is the firm to go to. If you want to see your retainer go down the drain without any meaningful work being done, this is your place. Colin Amos, the managing attorney, is as dishonest as they come. A quick look at his photo says it all—he’ll say whatever you want to hear, only to pair you with a completely different attorney. When I consulted with Colin, he assured me he would try to avoid going to trial and would assign me an attorney who would handle negotiations with the other party to reach an agreement. That’s not what happened at all. I was paired with Phil Jones, who seems more interested in flaunting his "Uprising Star" trophy he gave himself than doing any real work. Right from the start, he showed no interest in my case. I am in the final stages of discovery, and all I needed was for him to request a few more documents from the other party to clarify my ex’s income. Apparently, Phil is too busy flirting with Gena, the receptionist, to focus on my case. It took him a week after I paid my retainer to notify the other attorney he was officially taking over my case—only after I called to ask why he hadn’t even sent the paperwork. Phil claimed his policy was to respond to emails within 24 hours and advised to consolidate questions to save money, but that never happened. After emailing him, I had to chase him down with a phone call, and we’d end up spending an hour on the phone to discuss a simple email. I requested, early January, that he set a trial date, but he didn’t submit the paperwork until a month later—only after I had to follow up twice. His excuse? He thought he already submitted it. That’s not acceptable when he’d assured me it would be done. Eventually, I was fed up and called the office to speak with Colin. Instead of handling my concerns professionally, Gena had me on speaker with Phil sitting next to her, listening to the conversation. It was unprofessional and disrespectful. When I asked to speak with Colin, Gena inappropriately asked, “Is there anything you’d like to say to Phil?” I told her I was frustrated with how things were being handled, and she cut me off, saying Phil is on his way to his office to take your call. Phil proceeded to yell at me over the phone, blaming me for everything. I had already expressed my frustration to him multiple times about his lack of communication, but it didn’t seem to matter. The next day, I emailed Colin, and he called me back promptly. But the conversation was just as bad—he cut me off before I could even finish speaking and defended his attorney, claiming my expectations were "unrealistic." When I reminded him that he had mentioned to avoid trial, he dismissed my concerns and repeated that I was being unreasonable and have unrealistic expectations. By the end of the 6-minute call, Colin told me to go find another attorney and hung up on me. These are the kinds of attorneys that should be removed from the profession. They make life-altering decisions for you while showing no care or respect for your case. Avoid Goldberg and Jones at all costs.
