Matthew DeGioia is an excellent estate planning attorney. His expertise, organizational skills and simple politness are so appreciated. As questions arose throughout the process, he remained steadfastly calm which absolutely contributed to the success of our working together, whether via online video or in-person meetings. Moving from out-of-state entailed both explaining what could be conveyed and what would entail further discussion. We had a lot to discuss - revocable trust, pour over will, advance health directive, etc. - and he patiently fielded all queries successfully. I believe ‘DeGioia’ in Italian means something like ‘overjoyed’, which is exactly how I felt after Matt helped me win an appeal with my long term disability (LTD) provider. He set up multiple appointments with true experts, that, while expensive, nonetheless provided objective, incontrovertible proof of my ongoing disability that compelled my LTD provider to overturn an ill-formed prior decision that prematurely ended my disability benefits. Matt also wrote an excellent letter regarding insurance providers’ legally-mandated responsibilities for claims, which undoubtedly provided the impetus for a careful review by the LTD appeals team that ended in a fair and favorable outcome for me. Matt DeGioia is an excellent lawyer for several reasons. First and foremost, he is responsive. I called several attorneys before reaching out to Matt, and most of them never even returned my call. Matt returned my call almost immediately, and has sustained that level of client care throughout our months-long relationship. Being rather anxious as anyone who has a disability and loses their livelihood naturally is, I would sometimes reach out to Matt asking if he had done this or that in relation to this claim or our ongoing appeal to the Social Security Administration (SSA). There was never a time when he hadn’t promptly filed whatever needed to be filed or uploaded whatever needed to be uploaded, or written whatever needed to be written. Secondly, Matt is patient. Aside from gently tolerating my calls asking about things he accomplished weeks before, he was patient with my health-related issues that delayed the testing that would ultimately strengthen my appeal. Conditions secondary to my physical disability made it dangerous to conduct some of the tests that we needed in order to continue with the claim appeal. When finally I was able to complete the testing, he was ready with the rest of what was needed, including an alternate plan if these secondary health conditions were to prevent said testing altogether. Finally, he conducts himself with decorum and treats his clients with respect. I always felt included in the process—my opinion respected, and my concerns considered. It’s hard for a man to admit he has a physical disability, and I feel like Matt was sensitive to this. After winning this appeal, he continued to help me in my dealings with the LTD provider as a professional courtesy even when he had already retained his payment. I continue to work with Matt on my SSA appeal, for which we are now well positioned, and I will continue to recommend Matt DeGioia to friends and family for legal representation.
