DISBARMENT RISK! This man owes me several thousand dollars. I have not been able to get a hold of Mr. Coonley for over a year and a half. He refuses to return calls, voicemail, certified letters, emails, etc. The address listed here on Google and his website are just a coworking space that doesn’t even claim to know who he is - it is certainly not his office. I have an active case with the State Bar Of Texas to investigate this issue and he is also ignoring all communication attempts from the State Bar. Prior to this I had opened a case with the Client Attorney Assistance Program and he ignored them, too. He owes me several thousand dollars and is in breach of contract for failure to return an unearned retainer. Not only is failure to return an unearned retainer unethical, but given the amount of time that has passed this has potential criminal and civil consequences for Mr. Coonley. Although he is (technically) a lawyer it’s not clear he understands that failure to reply to a grievance issued by the Chief Disciplinary Council of the State Bar Of Texas has the potential to get him disbarred at worst and at best produces a public reprimand which will be on his record forever. I would never recommend anyone work with this attorney. John assisted me with a sizable collection matter and successfully recovered my money promptly with principal and interest. He did a great job drafting, negotiating and collecting the funds in a matter of weeks without escalating the matter into litigation. Not only did he pay attention to every detail, he promptly responded to phone calls and emails. I highly recommend John and his firm.
This is either a very convincing internet scam, or John is a very poor lawyer. After paying his invoice I have essentially lost contact. I went to the littlefield building listed as his office online and could not find any record of Coonley law from the folks I talked to. Please choose another firm at all costs. UPDATE: after asking for a refund, John finally had the time of day to speak with me. He agreed to give me a refund for some LLC filing fees I had paid him. (He never got the filing completed). I have since been trying to follow up and actually receive said refund for over 3 weeks now, but still have had no luck. This man is an absolute scumbag and a joke of an attorney. How he is able to practice law is a crime itself. I leave this review in hopes that nobody else ever has to deal with a crook like John like I did.
John did a great job at addressing all our needs. He was very quick with return calls and emails. He was quickly to get back the services that we requested.
