I worked with Mr. Paton for my divorce. He was very pleasant and had a good understanding of my situation. His experience and knowledge of how the system works were evident. I initially intended to have an amicable divorce but quickly saw the tactics often described in forums come into play with the opposing attorneys. This assured me that Mr. Paton had good intentions and aimed to make the process as pain-free as possible. I also saw that he could step up when needed. I always left his office or finished reading his emails with a load of stress off my shoulders and a clear understanding of the questions I needed answered.

I just called this office trying to get a small bit of information and spoke with a very curt, rude man who was unwilling to give me even 5 minutes to ask a couple basic questions. I'm talking questions like are you taking cases, can we do a conflict check, do you have experience with X type of cases, etc. I was very rudely told "we don't offer free consultations" which is not at all what I was attempting to achieve. It's such a shame but seems indicative of the type of practice these guys run.

Chris Paton misused his authority and acted so unethically in my case that I had to report him to the South Carolina Supreme Court, following the recommendation of the SC Bar.

I wish I could give Chris 10 stars. His initial retainer request was not excessive and he works very efficiently. I was astonished at how cost effective his services were compared to the attorney I used for my first divorce. Chris has impeccable integrity and compassion. He helped me look at things from my wife's perspective and encouraged me to seek remedies that did not involve litigation. He did such a great job I can hardly wait until my next divorce.
