Brian J Neary Law Offices Introduce

For individuals facing serious criminal charges and traffic offenses in Hackensack, New Jersey, and the broader New Jersey and New York regions, Brian J Neary Law Offices has positioned itself as a criminal defense firm within the "Nearby Lawyers" category. Located at 21 Main St, Hackensack, NJ 07601, USA, the firm is led by Brian J. Neary, an attorney with a long history in criminal defense law, having been licensed in New Jersey since 1976. He holds certifications as a criminal trial attorney from both the New Jersey Supreme Court and the National Board of Trial Advocacy, and has been recognized by Super Lawyers in multiple categories, including criminal defense, DUI/DWI, and white-collar criminal defense.

The environment of Brian J Neary Law Offices, located on a prominent street in Hackensack, presents as a traditional legal establishment. A professional office setting would be expected, suitable for client consultations and the handling of sensitive criminal defense matters. The firm maintains additional offices in Jersey City, expanding its physical accessibility across key areas of New Jersey. While a professional environment is generally a standard for legal practices, the effectiveness of this environment is significantly influenced by the internal operational practices and client service protocols of the firm. In this context, the firm's approach to client interaction and case management becomes a crucial aspect of the overall client experience.

Brian J Neary Law Offices focuses exclusively on criminal defense, offering a range of services for individuals accused of various offenses. Based on the firm's stated practice areas and the credentials of Brian J. Neary, their services primarily include:

  • Criminal Defense: This encompasses a wide array of criminal charges, from serious felonies to misdemeanors. The firm is equipped to handle complex cases in both Federal and Superior Courts of New Jersey, covering counties such as Hudson, Union, Passaic, Essex, Middlesex, Bergen, and Morris.

  • DUI/DWI Defense: A significant specialization, the firm represents clients accused of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Brian J. Neary is a founding member of the National College for DUI Defense, indicating a deep focus on this specific area of law.

  • White Collar Crimes: The firm also handles financial and corporate crimes, including issues such as fraud, embezzlement, and other non-violent offenses often committed in business or government settings.

  • General Criminal Defense: Beyond the specialized areas, the firm also addresses other non-white collar crimes and serious motor vehicle offenses.

Mr. Neary's background as a certified criminal trial attorney, with appearances as a criminal law consultant on national television and radio, suggests a comprehensive understanding of criminal legal strategy and courtroom advocacy.

The features of Brian J Neary Law Offices, when viewed objectively and incorporating readily available public information, present a complex picture. On one hand, Mr. Neary's extensive experience, certification as a criminal trial attorney, and recognition by Super Lawyers and Martindale-Hubbell (AV-Preeminent rating) highlight a strong professional pedigree and peer recognition within the legal community. These credentials typically signify a lawyer's competence and ethical standing. However, client reviews accessed online raise significant concerns about the firm's operational features, particularly in the areas of client communication, responsiveness, and fee management. Multiple client testimonials describe issues such as:

  • Lack of Communication: Clients report not receiving replies to numerous emails and voicemails, even after paying substantial retainers.

  • Retainer Disputes: Accusations of being "robbed for my retainer" and claims of work not being done, leading clients to pursue fee arbitration programs.

  • Case Management Concerns: Reports of attorneys being unprepared for cross-examination, not reviewing discovery with clients, and a perception that the firm takes on too many cases, leading to clients feeling "expendable" and not personally cared for.

  • Post-Payment Responsiveness: A consistent theme that communication and engagement significantly decline once the retainer is paid.

One review explicitly states, "Do not retain this firm... They robbed me for my retainer and did not do any work... This firm has not responded or communicated with me when they found out I was trying to retrieve my funds." Another client described the firm as a "total disaster," alleging a charge of "tens of thousands of dollars, only to file motion after motion til trial and then stated to take the deal," without ever reviewing discovery together. These serious allegations, while representing individual experiences, are significant features to consider when evaluating the firm's service delivery and client-centric approach. While Mr. Neary's professional reputation through peer-reviewed accolades is strong, the consistency of negative client feedback regarding communication and service delivery is a critical aspect of his practice's observable features.

In terms of promotional information, Brian J Neary Law Offices, as a "Nearby Lawyer" in Hackensack, leverages its physical presence and established reputation in criminal defense. The firm's contact numbers, (201) 488-0544 and mobile +1 201-488-0544, are readily available for prospective clients seeking legal assistance. Traditional promotional materials would likely highlight Mr. Neary's extensive experience, his certifications as a criminal trial attorney, and his recognition by various legal organizations. The firm's specialization in DUI/DWI and white-collar crimes would be emphasized to attract clients facing these specific charges. However, an objective introduction must also acknowledge the critical client feedback which suggests that the firm's perceived promotional claims of client care and effective service may not always align with actual client experiences. For any legal firm, proactive communication and transparent fee management are essential components of effective client service and a positive public image. Given the detailed nature of the negative reviews, potential clients should conduct thorough due diligence, including researching current and past client feedback and considering the serious allegations regarding communication and fee disputes, before engaging Brian J Neary Law Offices. The firm's long-standing presence and professional accolades are points of note, but the consistent concerns raised by clients regarding responsiveness and service delivery are crucial considerations for anyone seeking legal representation from this firm.

Do not retain this firm. As you can see from many other reviews this firm is fraud and the good reviews are from fake accounts or colleagues. They robbed me for my retainer and did not do any work and now I'm in the process of retrieving my money through the Fee Arbitration Program. I suggest everyone who had issues to look into it. This firm has not responded or communicated with me when they found out I was trying to retrieve my funds.

Brian charged me tens of thousands of dollars, only to file motion after motion til trial and then stated to take the deal. The crazy thing is, we never went through my discovery together. NEVER. I’ve brought it up to him over and over again and he kept stating that he has it covered. Also, when the cross examination occurred, he sent another lawyer to do it for him, which ok as long as they came prepared. And this lawyer comes into court UNPREPARED looking through my discovery and writing notes. Why are you doing it last minute? Completely unacceptable. There’s a lot more I just don’t have the time to allow him to take away from my life. I shouldn’t have paid him upfront because once I paid him he stopped answering my calls and stopped keeping up with my case. You have to understand they are a business. He has other lawyers working for him. They don’t truly care for YOU. They take on so many cases, that you are expendable. This law firm is a total disaster. Save your money and go elsewhere. Go somewhere where they care about YOU personally.

Absolutely horrible. I got his name from a colleague of his as I needed someone to represent me on a dui charge. To be honest anyone with half a brain should have had the case thrown out because there was no evidence to support the charges. But it didn’t get dismissed. I paid him 5k as was what he asked and I got a letter saying that he was going to be representing me all the way up to and including a trial. And that was all I needed to pay. But it wasn’t. The prosecution did admit there was no case and didn’t want to pursue it but the Judge refused to sign off on the prosecutor’s request. The lawyer asked me for another 15k, no installments , all up front. New total $22,000. For a Municipal Court hearing? Two weeks later the judge did drop all charges and when I asked for an explanation, a bill for services rendered I was ignored . Still didn’t get a bill over a year later. Be very careful . . As another commenter pointed out, the positive reviews are from other lawyers and colleagues not clients.

If you ever want to be robbed and ignored then this law firm is the one for you. My experience with the Neary firm was beyond poor. When I asked for a simple task to be completed for 6 months(which was never completed which led me to switch attorneys) was completed in 2 months by another attorney we hired. He is rude and unprofessional. If you look closely at the reviews you can see they are just from his colleagues. I wish you all the best outcome in your case and hope this review finds you well.

Very thankful for this group! I came to Brian months before my case was initiated. Brian took his time to prepare himself in the event anything went into motion and it did, nearly 6 months later. I reached out to Brian immediately on a Friday night, he was with me in Court that following Monday. This was a very comforting experience especially for someone who has never been involved with the law. Brian is a fighter in the Court room and I felt secure in his advocacy for me. Suzanne Axel was assigned to my case immediately after my first hearing. I do not have enough amazing things to say about Suzanne! She explained all of my charges in extreme detail so I was aware of all possible scenarios, this continued with each progression of my case. She was compassionate and informative. She consistently reminded me any decision about the case was mine but advised me with my best interest in mind without failure. Suzanne is determined to get the best possible outcome for her clients and I really couldn't be more thankful!!
