  • I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to express my deep concern and frustration regarding a recent interaction I had with your office concerning a protective order for myself and my children. On 2/20/2025, I reached out to your office for assistance, as I believe our lives are in danger. Unfortunately, I was met with a very rude and dismissive response from Richard Garcia. During our conversation, I was informed that my request for a protective order would be denied because I am allegedly under investigation. This explanation was not only vague but left me feeling helpless and unsupported. Mr. Garcia’s demeanor was combative and snappy, making it difficult for me to convey the urgency of my situation. When I requested to speak with a supervisor for further clarification and assistance, he abruptly hung up on me without providing any information or guidance. As a mother seeking to protect my children, this lack of empathy and professionalism is incredibly disheartening. It is alarming to think that in a situation where we are potentially in danger, the system designed to protect families can be so dismissive. I am left wondering: do we have to endure harm before a protective order is granted? This experience has left me feeling neglected and devalued, especially when I reached out for help. I urge you to address this matter promptly. Families in crisis need support and understanding, not dismissal. I hope to receive a response soon regarding the next steps I can take to ensure the safety of my children and myself. Thank you for your attention to this serious matter. Sincerely, Debresha Bedford
  • Unorganized, good luck if you need immediate help. From the beginning I applied online to save time never got a call. Went in and no one could find me in the system, even though I had a case number. Took a week of back and forth to finally be in the system. They offered therapy so I made an appointment with reception. Then I received a call to reschedule due to reception not checking the schedule with the therapist. Showed up for my reschedule sat for 2 hours waiting to not be seen. This place makes you feel unimportant I know the services are free but this place is a joke. I was looking for help and feel more helpless than ever. CPS is a joke Family Justice center is a joke, the only people that are helping and listening are at Child Safe.
  • Who’s in charge of employees at this place my wife is trying to get her protection order and someone on there end put on the file that she’s fine she talks to her Ex so they closed case and no this ain’t true and he calls to threaten to kill her and has a pending case, but someone in this office put this false report on her case ,now who’s in charge cuz this ain’t correct and needs to be addressed, honestly do t y’all see what this world has become and y’all just put her life at risk So no one is gonna ask me or even check Do I have to go to the federal level to file my complaint I’ve done this so many time ,federal bureau of investigation will investigate I’ve done this and I’m at this point so this whole place can get reviewed
  • There so good here and ready to help especially in my situation. They didn't treat me like a victim more like a human
  • This place is a joke. There is no “justice” with this facility. I had to call and leave 5 or more messages to my “advocate” for months and still he never called back. I finally tracked him down only for him to tell me there’s not enough evidence because the other entity hasn’t responded to him to provide documentation. How is there no evidence because of that? The advocate then said the Prosecutor stated “even though she didn’t want the relationship after the assault it looks bad on her”. Now they are contacting me again and driving past my house frequently. This is Texas, where women are to blame for everything men do to them.

About Bexar County Family Justice Center

For families and individuals in the Texas region, particularly those in Bexar County and San Antonio, navigating difficult personal crises such as domestic violence can be an incredibly challenging and often frightening experience. During such times, having access to a centralized and supportive resource is not just helpful, but often critical. The Bexar County Family Justice Center aims to be that very resource, providing a comprehensive and coordinated approach to assisting victims of domestic violence and their families. This organization strives to offer a safe haven and a pathway to recovery, bringing together various services under one roof to streamline support for those in urgent need. This article will provide an overview of the center, its services, and how it endeavors to support the local community in Texas.

The concept of a Family Justice Center is built on the premise that victims of domestic violence often need a multitude of services – from legal assistance and counseling to safety planning and housing support – and that providing these services in a single, secure location can reduce trauma and increase access to help. The Bexar County Family Justice Center embodies this approach, working to simplify the process of seeking help when a family is in crisis. While they strive for excellence, it’s also important to acknowledge that, like any organization dealing with sensitive and high-stakes situations, they face immense pressures and challenges in meeting the diverse and urgent needs of every individual.

The Bexar County Family Justice Center is strategically located at 126 E Nueva St 2nd floor, San Antonio, TX 78204, USA. This address places it in the heart of downtown San Antonio, making it accessible for many residents across the city and surrounding Bexar County. The downtown location often means proximity to other vital community services, including courthouses and other government offices, which can be beneficial for individuals dealing with legal proceedings related to their circumstances. San Antonio’s public transportation network can typically facilitate access to the downtown area, potentially offering a way for individuals without private transportation to reach the center. For those driving, it’s worth noting that downtown areas can have limited and metered parking, so planning ahead for parking options is advisable. The central location is intended to make it as convenient as possible for those seeking immediate assistance during a difficult time.

The Bexar County Family Justice Center is designed to offer a wide array of services aimed at supporting victims of domestic violence and their families. These services are typically provided through a collaboration of various agencies and organizations housed within or closely affiliated with the center. While specific offerings may evolve, the core services generally include:

  • Crisis Intervention and Safety Planning: Immediate support and assistance in creating safety plans to protect individuals and children from further harm. This is often the first and most critical step for new clients.

  • Legal Assistance: Access to legal aid and guidance regarding protective orders, divorce, child custody, and other civil legal issues related to domestic violence. This may involve referrals to pro bono attorneys or legal clinics.

  • Law Enforcement Assistance: On-site or accessible connections to law enforcement to report incidents, discuss criminal charges, and understand the criminal justice process.

  • Counseling and Therapy Services: Individual and group counseling for adults and children who have experienced trauma due to domestic violence. This often includes therapeutic support to process experiences and build coping mechanisms.

  • Case Management: Comprehensive support in navigating the various systems and services needed, ensuring clients receive coordinated care and assistance. This can involve helping clients understand their options and connect with appropriate resources.

  • Victim Advocacy: Advocates who can provide emotional support, information about victims' rights, and assistance in navigating legal and social service systems.

  • Housing and Shelter Referrals: Assistance in finding safe housing options, including emergency shelters and transitional housing, for those needing to leave an abusive environment.

  • Financial and Employment Assistance: Referrals to resources that can help with financial planning, job training, and employment opportunities to promote economic independence.

  • Child Protective Services (CPS) Liaison: Collaboration with CPS when children are involved, to ensure their safety and well-being.

  • On-Site or Referral to Basic Needs Support: Assistance with accessing food, clothing, and other essential resources.

The Bexar County Family Justice Center operates with several key features and highlights that underscore its mission and approach:

  • Co-located Services: The primary highlight of a Family Justice Center model is the co-location of multiple agencies and services under one roof. This minimizes the need for victims to travel to numerous locations, reducing stress and increasing access to comprehensive support.

  • Multi-Disciplinary Team Approach: The center employs a collaborative model, bringing together professionals from law enforcement, social services, legal aid, and counseling to work as a unified team. This ensures a holistic approach to victim support.

  • Focus on Victim Safety and Empowerment: All services are provided with a primary focus on the safety of the victim and their children, while also aiming to empower individuals to regain control over their lives.

  • Confidentiality and Privacy: Given the sensitive nature of the issues, the center strives to maintain a safe and confidential environment for clients seeking help.

  • Community Partnerships: The center often relies on strong partnerships with various community organizations, non-profits, and government agencies to enhance the scope and effectiveness of its services.

  • Crisis Response: While the goal is to provide comprehensive support, the center is fundamentally designed to respond to individuals in crisis, offering immediate avenues for help and safety planning.

As a non-profit, government-supported initiative, the Bexar County Family Justice Center generally does not offer traditional "promotions" or "special offers" in the commercial sense. Instead, its primary offering is the provision of free or low-cost services to victims of domestic violence. The core "promotion" is the accessibility of its comprehensive services at no direct charge to the individuals seeking help. This is vital, as many victims of domestic violence may have limited financial resources. The benefit lies in the consolidated, trauma-informed support system that aims to eliminate barriers to seeking help. Any services provided directly by the center are typically free of charge, and referrals to external partners may involve pro bono services or assistance in navigating financial aid for other support.
